Practical way to save up on gas

Philippines and other countries are suffering from exorbitant prices of gas. As a result, all commodities also go up. Life is difficult these days, the value of our money is getting smaller and buying power becomes lesser.

Jeff and I use our fuel-hogging car to work. The Php 800.00 gas we load every week is enough to get us to work and home and some errands to the mall once in a while. That was 3-4 months ago. Now, with gas prices at Php 60.47 per liter, the Php 800 gas will last us for only 3 days, *sighs*.

What to do? Well, we managed a car-pool. Good thing that my brother is working just 2 blocks away from our office. On days that we don’t use our car, we rode with our brother’s car and the next week, my brother will ride with us. The only problem is going home because we have different working hours, we finish early that’s why we have to commute going home. Commuting, riding jeepneys, FX and trains, will be a great help to the drivers too. It will increase their income since there will be an increase in their passengers. It’s like hitting two birds at one stone too, we get to save more money if we take FX/jeepneys instead of taking our car and helping the drivers as well.

Should gas prices still continue to rise, we might sell our present car and buy a more fuel-efficient one. We’re eyeing a Suzuki Swift or a Honda Jazz

If you have some other tips on how to save on gas, please share. Meanwhile, I got my inspiration for this post from Dneero, you can also answer the conversation below:

What’s your Speedtest.net result? PLDT myDSL vs. Globe Broadband

For the past 12 months, we’re using Globe Broadband connection as our first ISP. We were so excited because we thought we can enjoy fast Internet being a dial-up user before. Who would have thought that it’s the most disappointing experience ever! First, installation and activation took nearly two freakin’ months after we paid for their installation fee outright. Then, the agonizing wait for their Customer Service hotline is annoying not to mention their agents who have nothing to say but scripted lines from their system because they really don’t know what the hell is going on. Oh, and don’t bother to ask for their technicians to come to your house because they never show up, they were lost in cyberspace or something. Thank God the lock-in period is over and we terminated their services pronto.

Now, here comes the good news! After applying for PLDT myDSL, it took only a week for the modem to be delivered and 3 days for the account to be activated and I’m back online again, at my fastest! I only have the best words for PLDT for their outstanding customer service. Their agents really know what they’re doing and not just telling the same thing all over again. I once complained about my connection the other day and a technician came today to fix the problem even if it’s a Sunday.

So, wanna know your ISP speed? Go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and share your ISP speed. Here’s mine:

Something for your sweet tooth: Goya Dark Mint, Goya Black & White and Meiji Melty Kiss

A recent trip from Watsons got me overwhelmed with new goodies particularly in their food/chocolates section. You see, when buying toiletries at Watsons, I always end up buying more than what I planned to because of the temptations you see around. And this time, I gave in to everybody’s weakness, c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e-s!

Meiji Melty Kiss

1. Meiji Melty Kiss – I was really surprised to see that Watsons already have Melty Kiss. I first tasted this melt-in-your-mouth-goodie when I was in Hongkong last November, 2008. I literally flipped over the racks of chocolates in some stores in Hongkong only to find them in Mannings store at the airport. I brought 4 boxes home and devoured all of them in the shortest time I can remember.

Individually wrapped Melty Kiss

Anyway, the chocolates are individually wrapped so you can control yourself when eating. The chocolate renders an addicting smoothness to the mouth as it slowly melts. It’s not too sweet that’s why you won’t notice you already ate a lot. The downside though is its price, when I bought them in Hongkong, one box costs around Php 80-90. Watsons are selling these for around Php 120 per box.

Goya Black & White

2. Goya Black & White – If you love dark and white chocolates, then this one’s for you. Goya lets you enjoy the goodness of both worlds. The dark chocolate is good, not the bitter type that leaves a sour aftertaste in your mouth. I’m not a fan of the white chocolate though, I can’t taste anything. Perhaps it lacks the sweetness and the milky taste I’m looking for. What’s great is the price, it’s only Php 23.95 per box and the box contains 9 dark/white chocolates.

Goya Dark Mint is love!

3. Goya Dark Mint – This is my best find! Another one from Goya, this brand has really improved since my childhood days, and I’m loving what they have concocted so far. Chocolate with mint variants are seldom seen in local brands. That’s why when I have a craving for mint chocolate, I resort to imported and expensive brands. But now, I can satisfy my craving with the impeccable goodness of dark chocolate and mint at a very affordable price. The mint is not overpowering the dark chocolate, you know that there’s mint but you’re still eating chocolate and not a mint toothpaste flavored with chocolate. One box costs Php 23.95 only and contains 9 pieces of round chocolates.

Earthquake of Magnitude 5: July 8, 2008, Philippines

I’m supposed to write a different entry today but as I was starting my day here at the office, I felt a shaking motion. I thought it was the cause of my old office chair but I saw my officemates also buzzing about it. The earthquake occurred for about a few seconds, thank God! I prayed that there will be no casualties from the incident as Philippines has plenty of problems/calamities to tackle already. Stay safe everyone!

Polymer Clay Workshop with Angeli

Polymer clay is a sculptable material based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It usually contains no clay minerals, and is only called “clay” because its texture and working properties resemble those of mineral clay. It is sold in craft, hobby, and art stores, and is used by artists, hobbyists, and children.

I was on a look-out for something new these days that’s why when I learned that Angeli has new skeds for her
Polymer Clay Workshop for Beginners, I immediately signed up. I am already a fan of her creations so I really got excited for the workshop. Albeit the typhoon Frank last Sunday, my friend, Jen, and I braved the downpour and flooded streets just to go to this workshop. We’re really looking forward to this because this is also the chance that Jen and I will be reunited after 3 years, hehe… thanks to Angeli! It was a fun and very productive workshop. Angeli shared her time-tested techniques, the what-to-do and the what-nots. She shared her experiences and frustrations when she was just starting, all the brands of clay she tried, all the mistakes she made, so that we’ll learn from it and hopefully not go through what she had before.

What made the stormy afternoon more enjoyable is the delicious Brooklyn Pizza for lunch and Sonja’s Cupcakes for our afternoon snack

At first, I thought I can never make any of those clay creations because I don’t have the “creative hands” and I’ll just end up with a lot of clay junk. But Angeli’s a genius and she made all things easy! Everyone can make BEAUTIFUL and HAPPY clay creations.
