Lomo Loco: first roll from my Holga

After being fascinated with lomography, I finally got myself a
Holga camera and loaded it with a fresh Kodak 120 film. So what’s the result? Well, few of my shots were exposed, out of 12 shots, 8 made it to processing. The shots from my first roll failed to wow me, maybe I really suck big time in the creativity department. =( But I’m gonna use my Holga baby on our company outing and I hope to have better results.

I’m a no-fuss type of person that’s why I’m really not a fan of DSLR cameras… the reason why I don’t touch Jeff’s “Nikki” (Nikon D80). I’m happy with my point-and-shoot camera. That’s where my interest for lomo cameras came, just click and wait for your films to be developed. It’s pretty exciting coz you’ll never know the results until you have the film processed. Using different films yields different results such as the color, saturation, light leaks, etc….

Interested in lomography too? There are plenty of lomo camera sellers in Multiply or you can check out Team Manila in Rockwell. Films can be also be bought at Team Manila, from Multiply sellers and some Fuji stores in mall. Films can be processed at Digiprint, they have this “film-to-CD” promo, they charge Php 155.00 per roll of film to be scanned and transferred to CD. You can save more if you have them processed 5 rolls of film and transfer it to CD for only Php 235.00.

SATC spoiler: “Death in the City”

photo from NYmag.com

And since I’m very very curious about the movie’s plot, I really want to have a clue on who’s going to die in SATC. Actress Cynthia Nixon confirmed that “a character dies in the movie.” After watching the full movie trailer on my previous post again, this maybe the reason why there’s a scene of a mobile phone being dropped… hmmm….

It can’t be Mr. Big, oh please, I’ve been waiting for Carrie and Big to be together again in the series and their romantic episode in Paris shouldn’t come to waste. Besides, the director Michael Patrick King said in an interview: ” Kill Mr. Big? I would have been chased around the planet by women with torches.” Haaay, at least Carrie and Big will have their happy ending after all.

So will it be Charlotte? (because of her pregnancy?) or Samantha (because of her breast cancer?)

Ugh…. few more days….

Sex and the City Movie Trailer

I’m dying to watch Sex and the City, after leaving us ladies in blue after their final episode, the girls are back in the big screen. Line up the theaters on May 28, I’m still thinking who to tag along….

Just watching the trailer made me realize I really missed them. I was suddenly happy after watching the trailer, what more after watching the movie?! I’m so elated to see Mr. Big and Carrie getting married, or not?? Charlotte will be expecting, yey! And I’m anxious, from what I read, who’s going to die??

Aaah, next week!! In the meantime, I’ll just settle with the trailer and meet the girls on Wednesday next week.

Complimentary drink from Starbucks

What a great way to start my morning! On my way to work, I stopped by Starbucks at Sykes Bldg. along Quezon Ave for my Hungarian Sausage fix. And the barista immediately informed me that I get a complimentary drink on my next visit and after answering their survey. I am aware of this survey thingie after reading it from fellow Starbucks addicts blog but I’m not expecting to get one since I’m not lucky on every raffle, contests that I join.

Of course, upon reaching the office, I eagerly answered the online survey, and got my complimentary beverage ID for my FREE tall drink… yey!!

Jatujak – for your Thai cuisine craving

Want some piece of Thai cuisine without being too pricey? Jatujak Thai restaurant offers something new to our palates. In celebration of Mother’s day, I treated my mother for lunch. We went to The Block at SM North Edsa and surveyed the mall first before deciding where to eat. We chose between Martabak, Mexicali and Jatujak. We chose Jatujak because we were enticed by the interiors of the place, purple-yellow combination. We didn’t have trouble ordering despite the “alien names” of the food because they provided a description of the food and some pictures. Markings of the menu if it’s spicy, house-specialty and vegetarian is an added bonus. We ordered Shrimp Tom Yum for the soup, Bagoong Rice, Chicken Pandan and Thai Iced Tea. All of them are their house specialties. The Tom Yum soup is delicious! It has a nice blend of sour, sweet and spiciness. The spiciness is just right, you know it’s spicy but won’t leave you asking for a glass of water. This is perfect to consume while it’s hot. Thai food is not the same without Bagoong Rice, Jatujak’s version is served with shredded pieces of mango and sweet pork bits on the side. This is the best Bagoong Rice I’ve tasted so far. An order of Chicken Pandan has 4 pieces of chicken meat wrapped in pandan leaves with sweet/spicy sauce. The chicken is tender and the aroma of pandan makes me hungry even more. Thai Iced Tea is served in a tall glass, it is iced tea with milk served cold which makes a great complement to their spicy but delicious dishes.

Bagoong Rice

Most of the servings of their food is to share, that’s why the prices are reasonable enough because they served delish Thai food! A meal for two (Tom Yum+Bagoong Rice+Chicken Pandan+2 Thai iced tea) costs Php 800 (aroung US$ 19).

Jatujak is located at 4th Flr. of The Block, SM North Edsa, near Inasal Chicken Bacolod. They have branches in SM Mall of Asia and SM Megamall.

Hooters Philippines

This has been a long overdue post, we visited Hooters on May 1, 2008 just to catch the Hooters girls from the US before going back to the US. So yeah, here it goes. After months of waiting, hubby got excited after hearing the news that Hooters Philippines is now open in San Miguel by the Bay, at the back of Mall of Asia. Since it’s a holiday, a few of our “male” officemates tagged along (of course!). Out of curiosity and eager to know what a Hooters restaurant and “girls” look like, off we went albeit the distance from Quezon City. After a long walk inside the mall area, we crossed the street to San Miguel by the Bay and walked to the end of the strip of restaurants leading to Hooters. The place was packed with customers and girls wearing those either white or black tank tops tucked in with a very-very short orange shorts. Apparently, those girls wearing black tank tops are the Hooters girls from the US and those wearing white tank tops are the Manila Hooters girls. The restaurant looks busy as girls are always hurrying themselves taking orders, serving the food and entertaining the customers. Entertaining means posing for the cameras whenever guests asked them to and doing their dance/song number every 30 minutes. Of course, guests were very eager to take pictures with the US Hooters girls than the Manila Hooters girls. We enjoyed watching the US Hooters girls perform their dance/song number, the girls from Manila were shy and if they happen to dance or sing, we noticed that they’re not doing their best.

The food’s taste is so-so considering the price. Their famous Chicken Wings is Php 375.00 for 10 pcs. The Blue Cheese Burger I ordered is a little bit on the dry side. Their french fries definitely needs some salt.

Manila Hooters girls

The Manila Hooters girls definitely needs some more training not only when doing the dance/song numbers. The most important thing they need to know is customer service. I remember one girl called me as “Ate”. My officemate and I can’t help but laugh about it, it’s as if we’re eating in some “carinderia” to be called as “Ate” instead of Ma’am.

So don’t be a brat okay?

Nonetheless, the Hooters experience was fun as we experienced something new in our dining escapades. But when asked if we’ll come back to Hooters again by any chance, the answer is No. Especially now that the US Hooters were gone and all that’s left are the not-so-attractive girls (see the picture) and the food is far from special.
