Season your Teflon pans: Caring for your nonstick cookwares

There are some things that I don’t scrimp on, one of them is food and good kitchen utensils and cookwares. I’m not really into cooking but I can whip up a delicious meal when I’m in the mood. So having good quality utensils, pots and pans is one of my top priorities. Last December, I bought a Teflon frying pan because the Teflon coating in the old frying pan started to wear off and I was afraid of the Teflon dangers I’ve been reading. Little did I know that before its first use, Teflon coated pans and also cast iron cookwares should be “seasoned” before using for cooking. Yeah, I didn’t know this at first too but I’m writing this now so that you can do this on your newly bought Teflon cookwares and cast iron pans.

“Seasoning” means to treat the pan with oil to create, or rejuvenate, a nonstick surface. Cast iron pans traditionally require regular seasoning. But, with use and as Teflon-coated pans age, the surface may need to be seasoned to add to its life and effectiveness. Seasoning a Teflon-coated frying pan, or other Teflon-coated cookware, is fast and simple. eHow.com

Sleek granite kitchen sink

Last night, Jeff and I suddenly recalled our plan on our dream house in Cavite. He had a knack in drawing and sketching and he was able to make the house plan like an expert. We kept the file in our PC for future reference, the plan has undergone different changes from time to time whenever a new idea popped into our minds. Last night was one of them when I called his attention on granite sinks I stumbled in a website. Our original plan was to use a stainless steel sink because that’s the only one we can find readily available in home depots. But if there are other alternatives like a granite sink, we’ll choose this because granites are made to last.

Wine drinker must-haves

If you’re a wine drinker like my father, then you must know how to store your wines and stemwares properly. In our family, Papa is the one who drinks his red wine every night, sometimes he drinks too much but he’s always reasoning out that red wine is good for his heart. My mother drinks red wine just to help her relax before going to sleep. Jeff and I prefer our red wine chilled, and like my mother, we only drink it occasionally.

Secure your home

How secure is your home? In these times, a home security system is imperative to ensure security of your loved ones and your valuables. Living in an exclusive, gated and guarded subdivision doesn’t spare you from being victims of robbery and intrusion. What’s worse is that some robbers not just get the money and material things they want but even kill their victims. A similar incident happened just the other day with Filipino-Canadian film critic Alexis Tioseco wherein Alexis and his Slovenian partnet, Nika Bohinc, were shot dead at their Quezon City residence because of violent burglary.

Get rid of stray cats and dogs

If you’re a pet owner, then you’ll definitely know how it feels that taking care of pets is very much like taking care of a real person. You bathe them everyday, feed them, and let them out for a walk. My mother takes care of our dog, Bobsy, he’s been part of the family for more than 10 years, yes, he’s already old. My mother loves Bobsy so much that she prepares Bobsy’s food first than our own food, his favorite, liver cooked adobo style. Lately, we noticed that Bobsy is often agitated and barks more than usual. Until one night, I saw a black cat feeding at Bobsy’s bowl of leftover from his dinner. That’s when we found out that the reason why our dog is barking angrily is because of stray cats trespassing our gates. The stray cats would jump at the gate and go to our dog’s feeding area to see what’s left for dinner.

Clean as you go

I was at the mall yesterday to do some grocery when I decided to drop by Japan Home. Japan Home is a cheapskate’s haven because everything is sold at Php 88 or Php 66. Items offered ranges from kitchen wares, office supplies, gardening tools, craft supplies and other knick knacks for the house. But what really caught my attention is the slipper with a rag-like sole, aptly called “cleaning slipper”.
