HK Choco Finds

For the chocoholics like me, Hong Kong may be one of my fave places. This is because there are wide variety of chocolates available, some can’t be found in our groceries. And for dark chocolate lovers, you’ll find lots of them at 7-eleven stores. While we’re in HK, we always pass by 7-eleven before going back to Taisan to buy chocolates for our midnight snack. Chocolates consumed a considerable amount from our pocket money.

Mongkok street foods

You know you’re in Mongkok when as you emerge from the MTR exit, you can smell the street foods. Some smell stinky, especially the intestines. And when it comes to intestines, I still prefer our very own “isaw”. But to give in to my curiosity, I gave it a try. There’s plenty of street foods to choose from, from intestines, bacon wrapped sausage, lobster balls, fish balls, etc…

Tim Ho Wan: cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in Hong Kong

I’ve read from several blog posts about this new Michelin starred dimsum restaurant in Mongkok, Tim Ho Wan. This made Tim Ho Wan included in our lists of “to-do” things, Lin Heung (which is also a Michelin starred restaurant) is also included in the list but Tim Ho Wan is closer to TST. Coming from the warnings of other bloggers, the waiting time is 2 hours, so to avoid this, come before the place opens at 10 am. We arrived past 10 am, so the first batch of lucky diners were already munching their dimsum inside. We were handed an order slip by the attendant, scribbled number 11 on it and hastily said “half hour!”. We roamed around the area for around 20 minutes and when we came back, we’re surprised with the crowd in front of the place:

Hong Kong hiking: Dragon’s Back

For the culmination of our hiking in Hong Kong trip, we successfully hiked Dragon’s Back. We were supposed to hike this during our last visit, May 2009, but we’re pressed for time so we chose Lantau Peak on our previous hike. And to end our unfinished business, we hiked Dragon’s Back via the To Tei Wan to Big Wave Bay route.

Dragon’s Back is the most popular hike among locals and tourists alike due to its accessibility and spectacular bilateral views of the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the east and Stanley Peninsula and South China Sea in the west. At the end of the trail, one can freshen up at Tai Long Wan (Chinese name of Big Wave Bay) with its big waves (hence the name) and fine sand.

While staying at the double room of Taisan Guesthouse, I browsed one of the drawers to look for Hong Kong maps other guests might have left.

True enough, I find brochures and print-outs inside the drawer, but what caught my eye are these three printouts…

A smile creeped into my face the moment I found print outs of my blog posts, call me conceited but I find it flattering that others find my posts helpful. So a BIG thank you to a reader/friend who took time to print these out and made them as your guide. I hope that my posts and future HK posts will be helpful to other travellers as well. A new camera for the photoholic and videoholic

How many digital cameras do you own? First, we only had one simple digital camera, a Canon Powershot that’s still working and we gave it to my sister-in-law. Jeff had his DSLR, a Nikon D80, which I rarely (never) because it’s so heavy and I don’t know how to use the manual mode. The Panasonic Lumix LX3 which Jeff gave me as a birthday gift is what I use until now. I love using this because it’s compact but functions and shoots like an SLR. Apparently, Jeff also enjoy using this too instead of his Nikon D80. He loves using the HD video recording and wide angle shots. Because of this, there are times that I’m left with just my camera phone to use or use his bulkier DSLR.

Since we’re going to Hong Kong, it’s the perfect time to scout for affordable waterproof digital cameras because it will fit our outdoor lifestyle. My LX3 is too precious to get wet. We’re eyeing for a Panansonic Lumix DMC-TS2…
