Ciao.com’s disappointing change to its incentive system

After joining Ciao.com late last week, I already earned $6.26 for my reviews. They are giving $1.00 incentive for every 120-word full review of products that you make. Good thing I requested a pay-out for my $6.26 earnings because as of November, 6, 2008, they slashed down their incentive per review for a very disappointing $0.25 per review. I was shocked when my new earnings for this week of $4.00 became $2.95. Sigh… maybe it’s the effect of financial crisis in the US, or the surge of registered users, etc…. But this is sad news to those who are earning big in Ciao.com and for those who consider this as an alternative source for earning online. As for me, after one week, I might lose my interest in writing at Ciao.com.

Here’s their formal announcement from their site:

Changes to Our Incentive System
Dear Ciao Members,

Effective today our $1 per review bonus will change to a $0.25 per review bonus. Meanwhile, we will be introducing other incentive features – such as our Premium Fund program – to give you new ways to earn money on Ciao. These bonus programs, including the recently added Current Issue section, are part of our new incentive system, which is designed to reward high-quality reviews. We appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into your writing (and videos!), and our new incentive program will bring better pay to your best work.

There are lots of exciting new changes around the corner, and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date with all the ways to earn on Ciao as they come along. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed – especially when you look at your account balance.

Thank you for being a member of Ciao: We look forward to your new reviews!

My first taste of frozen yogurt at The White Hat

frozen yogurt mango, pineapple and dark choco bits toppings

Frozen yogurt is so popular nowadays and is considered as the “it” dessert. I guess I’m joining the frozen-yogurt-for-dessert bandwagon too. While looking for some place to rest our feet from serious walking at the Mall of Asia, I spotted The White Hat and immediately asked Jeff and Nanay if they’re game for dessert so as to rest, too. The White Hat serves authentic Italian frozen yogurt and has branches at the Mall of Asia and Robinson’s Place Manila. The store’s oh-so-cutesy interior is as delightful as the vast array of toppings to choose from to go with your frozen yogurt. They have everything from nuts, fruits, chocolates, syrups and even sesame mochi. We ordered pineapple toppings for Nanay, mango toppings for Jeff and dark choco bits for me.

the white hatfrozen yogurt is a guilt-free dessert

The first bite is heavenly, it’s not as sour as your usual yogurt and you’ll enjoy its creaminess. It’s as if you’re eating a vanilla ice cream, only BETTER! Why better? it’s 98% fat-free! And I do not need to elaborate the benefits of yogurt to our body, they’re just good! One regular cup (4 oz.) of frozen yogurt is Php 85 and large cup (6 oz.) is Php 115. An additional Php 20 for every toppings you put in your frozen yogurt. Pretty decent price considering that you’re eating healthy and delicious. If you’re saving up, you can eat them without toppings and they’re just as good too.

Kawaii finds – Chocolate Mirror and Jelly/Conversion Lens for your camera phones

What better way to start the week with some online “window” shopping, right? And look, this is one of the cutest thing I’ve found, a Meiji Chocolate Mirror. It looks so good enough to eat, it’s the same size as the real Meiji Chocolate Bar and also comes in the same packaging as the real chocolate.

Shoppers in the Philippines must be lucky because my friend Jing Samonte of In the Pink is selling these lenses. She calls them Jelly Lens, even celebrity Jolina Magdangal bought her bestseller Jelly Lens. It’s even affordable at Php 500. Visit her site here.

The 2009 Belle de Jour Power Planner – every IT girl must have!

2009 Belle de Jour planner

Belle de Jour, which means “IT Girl”, is the planner that specifically caters to the ladies of this generation. Every fashionista, career-women and female college students covet to have this uber stylish planner. Exciting pages and features of this planner includes Expenses Tracker, Menstrual Period Tracker (yes! ladies need this), Goal Planning, Travel Planner and Birthday List. Aside from its colorful pages and features, the planner also includes discount coupons from different shops/boutiques/salons/restaurants such as All Flip-Flops, Freeway, David & Goliath, Charles & Keith, Azta Salon, Cupcakes by Sonja, Ace Water Spa, Heaven & Eggs and a lot more! With all the discounts that can be availed using the coupons, it’s as if the planner comes for free.

I’ve been using the Starbucks Planner for two years now, the excitement of collecting stickers just to have the planner is the challenging and exciting part. The worst part is that I get to spend a lot for a Php 160 coffee more than the usual for the stickers. Unfortunately, the 2007 planner I had was kept unused because it’s heavy. The only thing I was able to use is the ballpen that came with it. Thankfully, the 2008 planner is less bulky that’s why I was able to use and bring it with me. What I miss the most with Starbucks planners are the coupons wherein I can get free coffee, sigh! Plus, I find the planners a little boring because it lacks a color and it’s a little serious.

And for the year 2009, I will be a Belle de Jour planner convert, yey! I reserved 4 copies for the BDJ planner, why 4 copies? I might be giving them as gifts for Christmas for my girlfriends, (hint!) Anyway, for those of you who wants to reserve, just go to their website, http://www.belledejourpowerplanner.com/, and fill out the reservation form. Suggested retail price for the Belle de Jour Planner is Php 598.

A new dessert haven for chocolate lovers, Heavenly Chocolates

After enjoying our Italian food at Bellissimo, we decided to cap the evening with dessert. And so we headed to the newly opened dessert place along Roces Ave. called Heavenly Chocolates, which I learned from Shopcrazy.com. The place is quiet and relaxed, perfect way to enjoy your drink of hot choco or cold chocolate drinks. Before we even get to order, the attendant gave us free taste of the Sachi Nama chocolates. We were given bite-sized chocolates that we immediately ate and boy, had I known that the chocolate was this good, I could have eaten it little by little to savor the flavor of the chocolate. The texture is so smooth it melts in your mouth quickly. The texture reminds me of Meiji Melty Kiss chocolates. I wasn’t able to take pictures of the Sachi Nama chocolates because even my officemates munched them at once. They sell these chocolates at Php 350 per box and they come in different variants too.

Each of us ordered different drinks, one ordered Dark Chocolate hot drink (Php 80) and the rest of us ordered the Rated R21 drinks (Php 135), Mexican Mocha and Marula Malt, which contains chocolate liqueur.

refreshing cold chocolate drinks (Php 135 each)

I liked the taste of Mexican Mocha over the Marula Malt. Mexican Mocha has a deep chocolate taste while Marula Malt is on the sweet side and not too chocolate-y for me. The owner is generous enough to give us samples of the chocolates that will be arriving in their shop soon. We immediately picked each chocolate pieces we forgot to take photos of them first (oops!). We were given a dark chocolate and milk chocolate variant. I preferred the dark chocolate because I find the milk chocolate a tad sweeter for my taste.

We were eager to try their Chocolate Pasta but it’s not available at that time. Their specialty cakes will also be available soon so this place deserves another visit and hopefully, they’ll be in full blast to serve all things chocolate.
