Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore experience

It was December 2006 when I first set foot in the land of Singapore. Singapore is one country closest to my heart because Papa worked here for a long time being a seafarer and since then, I always hear his stories and see his photos from Singapore. So when Papa gave us tickets to travel in Singapore for 4 days together with my Aunt and mother, I was ecstatic! It was raining on most days while we’re there but that didn’t stop us from exploring this beautiful country. The three of us enjoyed Sentosa, Little India and Orchard Malls shopping.

Direct TV in various parts of the US

My Auntie Norma who lives in Florida called us up yesterday, she’s been worried sick about our situation here in the Philippines. They are subscribed with Direct TV that’s why they are updated with international news even if they’re miles away.  The whole family is fine after 2 typhoons, she made a sigh of relief and thankful after knowing that. I kept laughing and at the same time, proud of the efforts my Auntie Norma has made just to keep contact with us. She’s already past her 60’s but she and her husband tried to use Yahoo Messenger and Skype and also Facebook to keep the communication lines open. Lola and Lolo Techies are sprouting everywhere, huh?

Meanwhile, if you have relatives in the US, you can also recommend to them to subscribe to Directv. My Auntie Norma’s family is happy with their subscription, aside from getting news from the Philippines via the international channels available, my Uncle Woody gets his daily dose of HD movies from HD channels available. They loved it so much they have to check if there’s a Direct TV in NY when their dearest daughter decided to move to New York to work.  They said it’s a perfect send-off gift or (welcome gift) to their daughter when she moves and lives on her own in the Big Apple.

Ondoy victims still needs your help; US troops are here to help

3 weeks have passed since a lot of Metro Manila residents suffered from Ondoy’s wrath. Hours after the disaster, social networks such as Plurks, Twitter, Facebook, etc. were vigorously updated asking for volunteers for relief operations, donations, food items and other things needed by the victims. It’s been great upon knowing that there are a lot of youth volunteers and that there are a lot of donations received at that time. But relief operations and rehabilitation don’t only last for a week, in fact, when Jeff and I dropped by the Sagip Kapamilya Center Warehouse in Scout Bayoran, donations are still pouring, one big balikbayan box just arrived from Saudi Arabia full of comforters, bedspreads and blankets. According to the volunteer in the warehouse, few people have thought of donating such, food items and clothes are the most common form of donations.

The Bayanihan spirit does not only apply to Filipinos, we’re quite surprised to see US troops at the gates of Sagip Kapamilya Center just about to leave carrying truckloads of relief goods.

The USS Harper and USS Toruga are carrying bulldozers, dump trucks, helicopters and landing craft to help the government deliver relief goods and medical assistance and clear debris, according to the US Embassy in Manila.

My take on Jollibee’s Chicken Barbecue

It’s been a while since I posted something food-related. Well, Jeff and I always settled for the usual, Mexicali and Starbucks whenever we go out so there are no food discoveries as of the moment. Oh wait, Jollibee launched their latest addition to their menu, Jollibee Chicken Barbecue, I read a lot of buzz from bloggers a few weeks back and tried this right away at the nearest Jollibee branch.

On Broadway musicals

Are you fond of watching musicals like those in Broadway? Some people prefer watching plays and musicals rather than movies, it’s a matter of choice I guess. I had fun watching musicals when I was in high school, but I haven’t had the chance to watch anything since then. It might be the lack of musical plays or tickets are in sky-high prices that only the well-heeled class can afford.

For those in the US, they’re pretty lucky to have shows almost weekly. Their musicals have a variety and themes too, not just the usual Saigon music that we’re accustomed too. If you’re into rock music, buying Trans-Siberian Orchestra tickets might be a good idea because it’s a rock ochestra, perfect for the boys too! Jersey Boys tickets are also on sale which is about a documentary musical of a rock and roll group in the 1960s. If you want a little bit of action, then watch the story of two Chicago pops strut their stunt in theater in A Steady Rain. Now this is interesting, an action-packed musical, gotta buy those A Steady Rain tickets.
