Whenever we go to Boracay, it’s always during the BER months where the water on the main beach is crystal clear. We usually don’t go when it is summer because we are very much aware of the algal bloom during this season. But this April, Jeff’s cousin and his friend wanted to visit Boracay before we go to Palawan so we looked for nice accommodations that will impress our guests. Summer is peak season so most good hotels are jacking up their prices. Good thing Jeff’s cousin consulted Trip Advisor and suggested Fairways and Bluewater Newcoast Boracay. This is on the other side of the island which is great because it won’t be affected by the algal bloom, this way, our guests won’t be disappointed with Boracay, touted as one of the world’s best beaches.
Turned out that we made the right decision to book Fairways and Bluewater for our Boracay trip. We all loved our stay even though we visit Boracay often. It’s as if discovering another beautiful secret the island has to offer.
Checking In
There’s a free shuttle that picks up hotel guests in front of Budget Mart in D’Mall. We rode this shuttle after our tricycle from Cagban Port dropped us in D’Mall. This way, we won’t have to pay Php 100 all the way to Fairways.
While we were waiting for our room keycards, welcome drinks were given to us. I was also asked for my credit card and advised me that they will charge Php 3,000 per room for card verification, but it will be reversed upon check-out. I was reluctant at first but the staff assured me that there will be no charge so I agreed so that we can go to our room.
Finally, the staff assigned us to Villa Margarita, so we waited for a shuttle to take us there.
Suite Room
We initially booked a Superior Room but got upgraded to a Suite Room, isn’t that sweet? And since we booked 2 rooms, they gave us adjacent rooms with a connecting door.
The Suite Room is 45 sqm. with 2 queen size beds. In spite of the big beds, the room is still spacious I can do cartwheels inside. Don’t mind the bulky CRT TV, it just so happened that the LCD TV was under repair when we checked in so they put that one as a replacement. They put the LCD TV back the next day.
The bathroom leaves plenty of room to move around, the closet and the safety deposit box is on the opposite side. Water pressure from the rain shower is good.
Personal ref, microwave oven, and electric kettle are part of the room’s amenities. The soda and beer in cans are Php 75 each.
They replenish your bottled water and coffee and tea supplies everyday.
Breakfast Buffet
Our room comes with free breakfast. They serve breakfast from 6 am to 10 am at the Veranda restaurant. During 9 am, it can be crowded so better go early. They have wide selection from breads, Asian section, and soup. I love that they cook the eggs as you order. And YES!, they have bacon. They don’t put it the buffet spread but just ask the staff and they will cook it and bring to your table.
The Pool
I think Fairways and Bluewater Resort has 4 pools, 2 of which are infinity pools that offers amazing view of the ocean. One is the Atlantis Pool and a smaller one near the clubhouse. We usually go straight here until the sunset before going back to our room. I love how it feels so calm, just relaxing while taking in all the fresh air.
Private Beach
If I have to choose only one reason why I love Fairways, it’s because of its private beach, Paradise Cove. It’s not crowded compared to the main beach and like I’ve said, no algal bloom here especially during the summer months. There are plenty of lounge chairs provided for the guests. And since it’s private, there are no annoying vendors too, so you can work on your tan in peace.
Other Facilities
Fairways and Bluewater Resort has a golf course, in fact, it’s our view from our room. You can open the sliding door and sit in the garden to relax.
You will not run out of activities inside the resort. They have a gym, zipline, and a massage. You can request for in-room massage or have it done at the Maris Spa cabanas near the beach.
Shuttles within the resort are available 24/7 while the shuttle going to/from D’Mall is until 10 pm only. If you can’t wait for the shuttle’s schedule, tricycles are available outside the gate and will take you to the main beach for Php 100.
Overall, there were minor setbacks like our AC dripping water on our second night, signs of wear on the furnitures, and long waiting time for the shuttle but the excellent service and politeness of the staff we encountered made up for it. We felt spoiled during our stay at Fairways and Bluewater Resort. I’d say it deserves 4/5 rating.
Oh by the way, if you’re curious to know what our first-timers has to say about Boracay, it’s beautiful! Jeff’s cousin who has been in some beaches in Mexico said that Boracay’s sand is nicer because it’s like melting in your hands. Something to be proud of, and we felt accomplished as well that they liked the vacation we planned for them.
