Cheap accommodations in Hong Kong

After posting my entry on Hong Kong Disneyland, I received some inquiries asking where we stayed and some itineraries for their Hong Kong vacation. So before I unravel more Hong Kong-Macau escapades, I’ll share you some cheap Hong Kong hotels, Hong Kong hostels and guesthouses that are suited for your budget.

I did my homework months before our HK trip that’s why I was able to narrow down my choices to 3 accommodations, and then finally decided to stay at HK Taisan Guesthouse to save on money of accommodation and more for shopping and food trips.

HK Taisan Guesthouse

http://www.hktaisanguesthouse.com/eng/index.htm

Adress: MTR Station Exit B1 , 15th Flr., Burlington House., 91-94 Nathan Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
Telephone reception : (852) 2366 8273 (Ate Yolly’s number/Taisan Store 1) or 2366 8414

Most HK travellers recommended this hostel/guesthouse for first-timers, it has a very good location because: it’s along Nathan Road, with free computer with Internet, the airpot bus stop is just in front of the building where Taisan is located, very near shopping places, accessible to most tourist spots in TST, free rice for breakfast, very near the MTR Station (Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit B1), and has a nice view of Kowloon Park if your room has a window facing Nathan Road. Aside from that, the one manages Taisan Store 1 is a Filipina, Ate Yolly, and she’s very friendly you’ll feel at home. You may check their website for room rates but for the Family Room that we availed which can accomodate 4 people with 1 double bed and 1 single bed is 500 HKD per night.

Golden Crown Guesthouse

http://www.goldencrownhk.com/newg/homeeng.html

Adress: 13th Flr., 5th Flr. Golden Crown Court, 66-70 Nathan Road, TsimShaTsui, Kowloon
TEL: (852) 2369 1782 FAX: (852) 2368 1740

This is my second choice since location-wise and the room rates are very similar with HK Taisan Guesthouse. The downside is there’s no computer inside the room unlike in Taisan although you can use the computer at the reception area when needed. You also have to pay for the room deposit via Paypal, Taisan didn’t require any deposit as long as you arrive before 12 noon.

Hotel Benito

http://www.hotelbenito.com/eng/index.htm

Adress: 7-7B Cameron Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon
Tel: (852) 3653 0388
Fax: (852) 2369 1283

Hotel Benito is a boutique hotel but I also considered this because sometimes, they have promos in Asiatravel.com wherein you get 1 free night if you availed their Early Bird reservation promo. The rooms are impressive, I kept this hotel in mind when we have the chance to visit HK again and when we have some moolah to spare.

For your Hong Kong itineraries, I am still not an expert in Hong Kong after my 2 visits but shoot me an email if you need help or reply to this post if you want to get lost in Hong Kong like me, kidding! I also recommend the Hong Kong thread in Pinoy Exchange for the very helpful and detailed discussion on all things Hong Kong, visit their newest thread, Hongkong for Dummies, I will be forever grateful to the makers of this thread.

    Hi Cheri,

Sorry, but I’m bad at estimating budgets, hehe… I always get side-tracked with shopping that’s why I need to have a credit card with me. But based on other HK travellers, 20-25k budget per person will do.

    [Reply]

    Badet Reply:

    Hi Ersie,

Taisan and Golden Crown are hostel/guesthouse lang and is recommended for budget-conscious travellers. Both have nice location naman at halos same rates.
If you want a hotel, then Benito is recommended. =)

  9. Hi Badet! I would like to inquire about Tai San Guesthouse. I’ve already booked a room but haven’t paid them. Nag-aalangan kase ako baka may additional charges silang iprepresent pag nandun na kame. I emailed them twice about additional charges pero walaa po silang binabanggit about it. By the way po, I read some reviews about the the hostel medyo maingay daw po and mabagal ang lift. Is this true po?

    [Reply]

    Badet Reply:

Hi Anne, we’re going to HK this Friday and we booked at Taisan again. Ate Yolly is asking for a 500 HKD deposit from us since we’re arriving in the evening. Pero last time, umaga kasi kami dumating kaya she didn’t ask for a deposit. Wala namang additional charges, except for the charge you’ll make pag magpapadala ka ng deposit via Western Union or Paypal. Other than that, kung ano yung rates ng room, yun na yun.
As for the noise, depende siguro sa mga guests din kasi the rooms are small lang. For the elevator, medyo nakakatakot the last time kasi aside from it’s small, it’s covered with plywood, medyo old na talaga. But I survived and lived to tell the tale, haha… It’s perfectly safe naman and Taisan is clean. =)

  10. Thank you. Yesterday I saw your blog. mas lalo na ko nakampante. Hahaha! Deadline ko kase for payment tom.

Thank you so much po for the info 🙂

Kaya pala some students were wearing face masks. Pero other than that, scenes in the airport and other tourist spots, normal naman lahat. There’s nothing to worry about. =) Have fun in HK!

wanna ask lang if we can make siksik in one family room. 4 adults and 2 babies.

    thanks much!

    [Reply]

    Badet Reply:

Hotel rooms are more spacious kaya kasya naman siguro 4 adults & 2 babies.

For Taisan/most guesthouses, masikip talaga ang space plus yung space pa ng luggages. Just make sure you mention/declare sa guesthouse how many persons including kids para they can tell you what room is appropriate.

    [Reply]

  22. hi! this blog is so informative, may I know how much is the rate of a family room in taisan? will it be good enough for 4 adults? thanks!

  41. Good day Ma’am,

First of all, let me thank you for putting of this Blog as a source of valueable information for travellers. My family and I, together with some of our friends plan to go to HK this 8th of September up to the 11th. I have called Ate Yolly thru the number you posted and she was kind enough to entertain me. Bale in our group, we are seven. Five adults and dalawang kids. A six year old and a two year old. I have talked to her and she offered us the Quadrupple bed room and just add an extra bed for the other adult. But as we exchanged messages thru FB. She changed he offer and said that we need to get two rooms @ 550 HK dollars each. Anyway, I have replied to her message saying that I though we agreed that we will get the quad room.

She never replied to that message at all. So I have browsed your Blog for other options and found Golden Crown Guest House. I think the price is more reasonable but we will be getting two rooms pa rin. A twin bed room for my family and the rest of the group would be getting the 3 bed room. Is this ok sa tingin mo? Hope you can help us out ma’am. You have my e-mail address. Thanks!

    [Reply]

    Badet Reply:

    Hi Zandro,

We stayed at their Quadruple rooms before, medyo masikip at wala ka ng lalakaran if you add en extra bed sa floor. Considering that you have to allot space for your luggages.

If you can’t contact her, okay din naman yung Golden Crown, positive feedbacks from budget travelers as well. =)

Already sent a reservation request sa Golden Crown. I received a confirmation e-mail from the hotel. But it doesn’t complete the reservation yet. They will send us another e-mail for instructions on how we can pay for the deposit and other instructions.

Ask ko nga pala. We would like sana to go to macau. I have been there once pa lang and hindi naman kami masyado nakapag libot on our own kasi naka package tour kami that time way back 2008. Maaga flight namin from clark so around 9 AM nasa HK na kami. Do you think it would be worth it to go to macau agad on our first day and spend a night there? Or punta na lang kami doon pag medyo settled na kami sa hotel namin and nakapag libot na? We know someone who works in macau sa Venetian and we are thinking kung ok kaya na mag stay kami sa macau on the first day.

We plan to go to Disneyland during our stay in HK and hindi ko rin alam if need ba talaga namin mag dala ng stroller para sa baby boy namin. The last time I went there kasi napansin ko medyo malayo yung entrance galing sa MTR station and bus terminals. What time ba maganda pumunta doon? But i am sure aantayin namin yung fireworks which starts around 7 PM pa ata. But ok sana kung malilibot namin talaga yung loob.

Anyway, pasensya na kung maraming tanong. First time ko kasi makapunta ng walang tourist guide and first time naman lumabas ng bansa ng mga kasama ko. I hope you can help us our with regards sa ibang concern namin. Thanks talaga for this blog! More power!

Hope to hear from u. Will call u said ate yolly an hour from now for the booking of Taisan.

No visa and other papers required to go to HK. Just your passport and tickets. =)

  48. hi po!thanks for your blog..big help for us who will be going to HK for the 1st time. We will be staying in Taisan Burlington branch din. Ang Taisan Burlington branch is on 13th stop right? So 13th stop din ba ang nakalagay dun sa screen?o kelangan bibilangin ko manually talaga ung mga stops with airport as the first stop?

    Badet Reply:

Yes, may nakalagay na 13th stop.

  50. hi! we’ll arrive in hk past 12 mn, is there still an available a21 bus at that time? thank you, ur very helpful esp for first timers.. 🙂

    Badet Reply:

Hi Anne, yes bus service is 24 hours naman. Medyo mas matagal lang ang interval. For night buses, ang code na nila is N21 bus instead of A21 bus.
