If you’ve been reading my posts about my family’s trips, you would know that we are the adventurous-stick-to-a-budget travelers. We prefer staying in guesthouses than in posh hotels, that way, we can have more money to spend on other things like food. Between me and Jeff, I’m the more adventurous one when it comes to trying out local cuisines. I see to it that when I travel, I got to taste their cuisine. Like in Hong Kong, I was brave enough to taste the street foods in Mongkok despite the smell, the locals are eating them so can I. Jeff, on the other hand, is very eager to explore the mountains or run.
When I stumbled upon Withlocals.com, I knew that this is our kind of travel. We travel to eat and experience!
Our goal is to connect people and cultures through food and experiences. – Withlocals.com
At Withlocals.com, people can sign up as host or a guest. For guests, you can choose what unique experience you like to do: EAT with locals, TOUR with locals, or do some ACTIVITIES with locals.

EAT with locals
EAT with locals lets you enjoy authentic home-cooked meals together with a local family. Not only you will enjoy authentic home-cooked meals, you will also gain new friends and share stories over a hearty lunch.

ACTIVITIES with locals
Do you want to recreate that Thai dish you love when you come back home? Then book a cooking lesson with a local, learn something new.

TOUR with locals
TOUR with locals is right up Jeff’s alley. I saw one that offers a bike tour in Kathmandu in Nepal!
You can enjoy Withlocals in Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Singapore. Soon, they will open in the Philippines. With the Filipino hospitality and a lot of unique experiences we can offer, I’m sure travelers from around the world will flock to the Philippines.
When our friends from Germany, Chris and Hong, whom we met in Hong Kong came to visit months ago, we never really offered to tour them in our malls and Luneta Park, Jeff took them to the mountains. They want seafood, we went to the market and bought seafood. They enjoyed what the locals do, and they will be back!

The next time you’re in a different place, try something new, go local. Invest in experiences rather than materials things, make memories.
Great way to embrace new cultures. 🙂
