A Weekend in London: Ideal Itinerary Fillers

If you find yourself with some spare time to enjoy a weekend away and you’re in search of a city break, there’s very few places in the UK that can beat our capital when it comes to the sheer range of itinerary fillers on offer. This incredibly versatile city provides visitors with a diverse selection of attractions to choose from, to suit your personal style and taste.

Utilise the good deals on London hotels from Travelodge and enjoy a stint in the city affordably. Take a look at these fabulous examples on what can fill your days, and evenings,  to ensure a jam-packed weekend that is worth every second of your time in the Big Smoke.

Friday

Rather than trying to cram all the sights into one day, break up the visits to avoid unnecessary stress. Plan a few trips to take you up until the evening and then do the same the following day.

Check the schedules before you go, but at some point during your visit, be sure to catch the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. Between May and September, you can find the ceremony every day, but the rest of the time, it’s on alternate days. Do your homework before you travel.

Take some time to explore one of the notorious museums, such as the Natural History Museum or the V&A Museum. The latter provides plenty of historical and more modern art exhibitions for your admiration, without having to spend a penny. With the Science Museum and the NHM both found on Exhibition Row as well, if you have the time, spend an hour or so in each one for an all-round experience.

As darkness falls, make your way to the West End to catch an evening performance of your favourite show. Whether it’s an old favourite such as Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables, or one of the newer additions such as The Bodyguard or Wicked, you can enjoy a night of magical sets, costumes and theatrics that you’ll never forget.

Saturday

Rising early is ideal, particularly as there’s so much to see if you want to make a day of it. From St Paul’s Cathedral to the Tower of London, you have the opportunity to absorb as much history and culture as you can take.

Visit the Tate Modern or admire the intricacy of Westminster Abbey, before taking a ride on the London Eye for jawdropping panoramic views of the London skyline. If you find your daylight hours chock-a-block with sights and attractions, book a pod on the Eye for sun-down and appreciate the horizon as the sunset blankets the sky.

Sunday

Take the opportunity to shop till you drop in any of the fantastic shopping districts. Perfect for a spot of retail therapy, you could enjoy browsing the high street chains and department stores of Oxford Street or head for the independent boutiques and vintage stores of Camden. Whatever your personal style, there’s bound to be a potential spree waiting for you.

Return home knowing that you’ve made the most out of your visit to London. With some good deals on London hotels from Travelodge, it’ll only be a matter of time before you make a return visit.
