UPDATE: Casa Italia in SM The Block is now known as Giulia.
Can you guess what’s a gelatonini? It’s a gelato + panini = gelatonini, Casa Italia’s twist to an ice cream sandwich or the Pinoy’s dirty ice cream in a monay bread.
Casa Italia has two gelatonini flavors: Nutella Gelatonini and Ham and Cheese. I got to try the Nutella Gelatonini which is so good! 4 scoops of Nutella gelato in a warm pandolce or Italian sweet bread. You better eat it fast though, before the gelato melts. The Ham and Cheese Gelatonini is composed of Casa Italia’s bestselling Formaggi gelato (cream cheese and cheddar cheese flavors) paired with smoked ham, then sandwiched between the pandolce.
Before I tell you more about their menu, let’s get to know Casa Italia first. Casa Italia is a modern day interpretation of the traditional Italian bar serving a wholesome menu of Micro-Roasted Coffee OTTO, Handcrafted Premium Gelato, Freshly-Made Food (salads, oven-baked pizzas and panini), Italian beers and wine in a fast casual all-day dining setting.
For those looking for something light and healthy, try the Sole Fillet with Lemon Pepper Sauce. I really like the softness and flakiness of the fish, but I think I wanted the sauce to have more hints of lemon and pepper.
My favorite among their rice meals is the Hickory Pork Belly. The sauce is so flavorful you’ll be reaching out for more rice.
For desserts, the have the Sunny Daydream and Midnight Surprise. Sunny Day Dream has freshly baked apple pie with 3 scoops of gelato. Midnight Surprise is every chocolate lovers dream. Choco lava cake topped with 3 scoops of gelato.
Have a drink the Italian way with their Frappe or Gelatoccino.
Or if you’re up for it, you should try their Liquorato. We tried Limoncello and White Velvet Amaretto.
Now you know where to eat the next time you set foot in SM The Block. Most of their food are good for sharing so you can share and try more food on their menu.
