When ASUS Philippines released their Zenfone 2 last year, I knew that it will be my next phone once I decided to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (yes, it really needs to retire :p). But I just love my gadgets that it’s hard to replace them until they’re dead. Last month, news broke out about the new models of ASUS Zenfone: Zenfone Selfie, Zenfone Go, Zenfone Laser, and Zenfone 2 Deluxe. The two models that caught my fancy were the Selfie and Deluxe. Zenfone Selfie because of the 13 MP front camera and Zenfone 2 Deluxe because of its large storage capacity.
Before my trip to Hong Kong, I finally decided to buy the Zenfone 2 Deluxe but when I asked someone from ASUS, it’s still not out in the market, even the Zenfone Selfie. I wanted to buy one prior my trip so that I can use it when I’m there.
I’m willing to wait it out till I come back but when I saw the Zenfone 2 Deluxe at the ASUS store in Mongkok Computer Center, its hard to walk away from this beauty.
I wanted to have the 128 GB storage but they don’t have it, they only have the 64 GB storage. I also asked if they already have the Zenfone Selfie but it’s not released in Hong Kong last month. So I finally settled on Zenfone 2 Deluxe with 64 GB storage, in Purple, priced at 2,499 HKD, around Php 15,000. It also came with a free tempered glass screen protector.
Specifications:
Model: ASUS Zenfone 2 Deluxe ZE551ML

Dual-sim
Screen size: 5.5 inches

These are just the specs I look for when buying a phone, but for a more detailed specification, check out GSM Arena. If you will compare, there’s no difference between the Zenfone 2 4 Gb/64 Gb and Zenfone 2 Deluxe 4 Gb/64 Gb, just the back cover.
Zenfone 2 Deluxe in Photos
The phone especially its multi-faceted back cover that looks blue/purple is really envy-worthy. My husband had a grand time capturing every detail of it.
One downside of having edges in the back cover is it will be more prone to scratches, just what happened in the photo below. Notice the 2 dots on both side of the volume rocker?
Sample photos using the rear camera
Just a few attempts in testing the rear camera. The photos were just resized and watermarked but no other adjustments were made.
My verdict
It took me long to upgrade from my old phone but I’m very happy with my Zenfone 2 Deluxe. It’s sleek and classy, I love the multi-faceted back cover because it gives a luxurious feel and does not slide from my hands. The volume rocker at the back is something new to me and I like it this way, so that the sides are free from buttons giving it a seamless look. Now, I don’t have to carry 2 phones anymore because it’s dual-sim. The phone is very fast and responsive perfect for social media savvy moms like me who likes to multi-task.
Watch out for this phone to be released here, it’s worth the wait.
