Cheap accommodations in Hong Kong

After posting my entry on Hong Kong Disneyland, I received some inquiries asking where we stayed and some itineraries for their Hong Kong vacation. So before I unravel more Hong Kong-Macau escapades, I’ll share you some cheap Hong Kong hotels, Hong Kong hostels and guesthouses that are suited for your budget.

I did my homework months before our HK trip that’s why I was able to narrow down my choices to 3 accommodations, and then finally decided to stay at HK Taisan Guesthouse to save on money of accommodation and more for shopping and food trips.

HK Taisan Guesthouse

http://www.hktaisanguesthouse.com/eng/index.htm

Adress: MTR Station Exit B1 , 15th Flr., Burlington House., 91-94 Nathan Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
Telephone reception : (852) 2366 8273 (Ate Yolly’s number/Taisan Store 1) or 2366 8414

Most HK travellers recommended this hostel/guesthouse for first-timers, it has a very good location because: it’s along Nathan Road, with free computer with Internet, the airpot bus stop is just in front of the building where Taisan is located, very near shopping places, accessible to most tourist spots in TST, free rice for breakfast, very near the MTR Station (Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit B1), and has a nice view of Kowloon Park if your room has a window facing Nathan Road. Aside from that, the one manages Taisan Store 1 is a Filipina, Ate Yolly, and she’s very friendly you’ll feel at home. You may check their website for room rates but for the Family Room that we availed which can accomodate 4 people with 1 double bed and 1 single bed is 500 HKD per night.

Golden Crown Guesthouse

http://www.goldencrownhk.com/newg/homeeng.html

Adress: 13th Flr., 5th Flr. Golden Crown Court, 66-70 Nathan Road, TsimShaTsui, Kowloon
TEL: (852) 2369 1782 FAX: (852) 2368 1740

This is my second choice since location-wise and the room rates are very similar with HK Taisan Guesthouse. The downside is there’s no computer inside the room unlike in Taisan although you can use the computer at the reception area when needed. You also have to pay for the room deposit via Paypal, Taisan didn’t require any deposit as long as you arrive before 12 noon.

Hotel Benito

Adress: 7-7B Cameron Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon
Tel: (852) 3653 0388
Fax: (852) 2369 1283

Hotel Benito is a boutique hotel but I also considered this because sometimes, they have promos in Asiatravel.com wherein you get 1 free night if you availed their Early Bird reservation promo. The rooms are impressive, I kept this hotel in mind when we have the chance to visit HK again and when we have some moolah to spare.

For your Hong Kong itineraries, I am still not an expert in Hong Kong after my 2 visits but shoot me an email if you need help or reply to this post if you want to get lost in Hong Kong like me, kidding! I also recommend the Hong Kong thread in Pinoy Exchange for the very helpful and detailed discussion on all things Hong Kong, visit their newest thread, Hongkong for Dummies, I will be forever grateful to the makers of this thread.

Im going to visit Hong Kong in Dec. I am checking around and found some places with good rates in Chungking mansion and Mirador mansion (Travellers guest house, Garden Hostel, Cosmic Guest House, Dragon Inn). Could you give me some advice on such places or suggest any other options? Im in budget, <HK$180 is ok to me, Cannot afford higher rates. Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Alex, I honestly don’t recommend staying at Chungking Mansion. Mirador Mansion is better. I haven’t stayed at the guesthouses you mentioned that’s why I can’t vouch for them. You may check tripadvisor.com for reviews. =)

  8. Hi.. I, together with my family and my brother’s family went to HK last week (Feb. 21-24, 2013), we are all first timers kaya medyo tensyonado pagdating namin dun, mahirap talaga pag wala kang kasamang magtu-tour sa inyo, talagang maliligaw ka. DIY lang kami ang we survive for 4days/3nights. we stayed in a budget hotel sa Mongkok actually hindi nga hotel yun budget stay lang talaga, we got 2 rooms, we paid HK$300/room/night. Ok naman yung location pagbaba mo katabi KFC na halos tapat lang ang 7-11, yun nga maliit ang cr, double deck ang bed pero napagtiisan namin kasi gabi lang naman kami mai-stay dun, matutulog lang talaga. We went Ocean Park (HK$280) for our first day and Disneyland (HK$399) on the 2nd day tapos 3rd day sa Macau.

  10. Mas mahigpit sa big 5 star hotels when it comes to number of persons in the room. It’s because of fire code and syempre, additional huge charge if the guests will book another room instead of allowing them to stay in one room. If the room if only good for two, the maximum allowed person to fit in is 4 ( nasa pakiusapan yon) plus charge for extra beds, pero they won’t allow more people than that.
