Nomama Ramen on a nippy night

This nippy weather is so perfect for both sleeping and eating! But before sleeping, we must fill our tummies with a hearty soup first. Nothing seem so fitting than a hot bowl of ramen, aaah comfort food!

I thought of going to our fave ramen place, Ajisen Ramen, which has a new branch along Sto. Domingo, but decided to try a new resto because there are plenty of new ramen joints now.

We headed to Nomama Artisanal Ramen along Scout Tuason.

Nomama’s cool menu

Check out the other ramen places I’ve tried:

Nomama has bright and airy interiors, I’d like to call the restaurant’s design as rustic Japanese because of the use of amber-colored wood and not the usual black/white setting that most modern Japanese restaurants have. Still going for a rustic vibe is the cemented floors and walls and unfinished ceilings. The playful lights and decors make up for lack of colors in the wall.

Nomama’s open kitchen…

Are you excited what ramen we tried?

Jeff had Nomama Ramen, I suppose this is their specialty since it carries their name.

Nomama Ramen, Php 290

Nomama Ramen has chashu (pork), tamago (marinated soft-boiled egg) and cabbage in a house pork stock with mis0-sesame blend. I like the hint of sesame in the broth, I remember having miso-based stock and found it “nakakaumay”. But with the miso-sesame mix, it’s just hits the spot.

I ordered Braised Chicken Wing Ramen. It has 3 pieces of chicken wings, mushroom bits, tamago in a soy-based broth (I think).

Braised Chicken Wings Ramen

Although the broth and its components like the chicken wings and mushroom are flavorful, I don’t think they work together in a dish. When I tasted the mushroom, it’s so packed with flavor overpowering the other ingredients. I really laughed when Jeff had a bite of the chicken wings, he said it tasted like “adobo”, funny and weird comparison but I must agree. Maybe because it’s soy-based and a little bit on the sweet side. I also don’t like the big chunks of garlic floating in my soup, more of like an obstruction in scooping out the soup and the noodles.

Since I was not happy with my bowl, I’ll just compensate it with some dessert, KitKat bar!

KitKat Bar, Php 175

The chocolate bar on the left has some crunchy peanut butter bits while the left side is creamy chocolate. Definitely a treat for peanut butter-and-choco lovers.

Although our dining experience was a hit-and-miss, I’d still dine here because they use and support local and organic produce.

Sharing some good news! They have the 1 peso ramen promo until January 31, 2013. Your second bowl of ramen is only 1 peso.

1 Peso Ramen promo is every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday only

The server also mentioned that they will have another promo on Deal Grocer. Watch out for it.

Other useful tidbits:

  • has own wash area and comfort room
  • limited parking
  • has WIFI, woohoo!
  • accepts credit and debit cards

  2. Wow! Nomama Ramen. Nomama means “THAT’S IT”. But others understanding from the word NOMAMA RAMEN got its name from a play on words that it’s “not your mama’s ramen”. Hahahahaha..well seeing from their bodega-inspired decored ceiling and the place itself is so GREAT!
