Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore experience

It was December 2006 when I first set foot in the land of Singapore. Singapore is one country closest to my heart because Papa worked here for a long time being a seafarer and since then, I always hear his stories and see his photos from Singapore. So when Papa gave us tickets to travel in Singapore for 4 days together with my Aunt and mother, I was ecstatic! It was raining on most days while we’re there but that didn’t stop us from exploring this beautiful country. The three of us enjoyed Sentosa, Little India and Orchard Malls shopping.

4 days seem so fast when we we’re there, we didn’t get to see other tourist attractions and I didn’t experience the night life in Singapore. If given the chance to visit Singapore again, I’m sure it’ll be whole lot different because I’m bringing along Jeff. It will be the perfect birthday presents for us since we’re celebrating our birthdays on November (November 1 for me and November 21 for Jeff). It will be Jeff’s first time in Singapore and I’m also excited to revisit and discover new places at Singapore. Just like any adventure travelers, Jeff and I will go on a DIY trip to Singapore since transportation is much like Hong Kong’s rail transit, very efficient and tourist-friendly.

So here’s my planned itinerary, my Singapore Shindig, =)…

Badet's Singapore Shindig 1-day itinerary

7:00 am: What better way to start a day in Singapore but to have a breakfast with Kaya Toast, soft-boiled eggs and teh-tarik. I’m curious on how teh-tarik is made, it’ll be a joy to watch. I’m pretty sure there’s a Ya Kun Kaya Toast near our area to have a hearty breakfast before proceeding to our next destination.

8:00 am: Assuming that we will be coming from Link Hotel, I based my starting point at Tiong Bahru MRT Station. From Tiong Bahru, we’re off to Singapore Zoo.

How to get there:

Take the MRT to Ang Mo Kio Station (NS16), then board SBS Transit bus 138.

MRT fare: Tiong Bahru to Ang Mo Kio – 1.60 SGD each

9:00 am-11:00 am: We’re gonna squeeze in as many attractions we can see at Singapore Zoo like animal feeding times, bathing the baby elephants, etc… A boat ride at the Seletar Reservoir seems fun too.

Singapore Zoo admission: 18 SGD Adults

Boat Ride: 6 SGD Adults

From Singapore Zoo, we’re heading back to Orchard MRT Station for some dose of shopping.

MRT fare from Ang Mo Kio to Orchard Station: 1.40 SGD

12 noon: Lunch at Orchard Road. We’re going to have our fill of Chili Crabs and Hainanese Chicken Rice at the hawker center in Orchard Road. Visit Wisma Atria and that three-story HMV outlet located at The Heeren. I hope there are already Christmas decorations along Orchard Road too just like I saw 2 years ago…

1:30 pm: Head to Funan Digitalife Mall for electronics shopping, City Hall MRT. What’s a visit to Singapore without grabbing the opportunity to check out the latest in electronics and gadgets. On my first trip, I wasn’t planning on buying my Ipod Video there but upon knowing how cheap they are sold, I bought my Ipod on impulse. This time, I’m eyeing for a Panasonic LX3 as a birthday gift and a new Ipod, again….

MRT Fare from Orchard to City Hall MRT Station: 1.00 SGD

3:00 pm: From Singapore Flyer’s website, there are shuttle buses which can take us to Singapore Flyer, these can be found at the bus stop next to St. Andrew’s Cathedral.  Now, I’m really excited to ride this for 30 minutes to see the whole of Singapore and a little bit of Malaysia and Indonesia. It’s also convenient since I don’t have to go all the way to Sentosa to ride the Carlsberg Sky Tower to enjoy a 360-degree view of Singapore.

Singapore Flyer Tickets: 29.50 SGD

5:00 pm: At the Singapore Flyer, there’s a Tourist and Transit Hub where we can join tours to visit landmarks and other attractions in the city. As much as we love to go there on our own, I think it is wise to join the tour given the limited amount of time we have. For just 29.90 SGD, the Captain Explorer Dukw Tour will take us to Esplanade, Padang, Supreme Court, City Hall, War Memorial and the Merlion while riding in a cool authentic revamped WWII amphibious vehicle.

8:00 pm: Now time to chill! When we travel, we see to it to dine in a unique restaurant, and what I found is the Clinic Restaurant in Clarke Quay. It’s just a different experience to dine while sitting on wheelchairs or hospital beds. After that, we also hope to meet our college friends who now works in Singapore for some partying also at a bar in Clarke Quay. Our friends and us have a lot of catching up to do.

11:00 pm or anytime we finish partyin’: Well, as much as we’d like the day not to end, a day in Singapore is finished. But if we still have some energy and still sober (haha), we can drop by at Mustafa Centre for some pasalubong shopping since it’s open 24 hours.

I’m crossing my fingers that this one-day itinerary will come true… till then, see you in Singapore lah!

  1. Sis, I think this is too much for one day:) I think you will need a day for Singapore Zoo as there’s so much to see there. Sayang naman kung saglit lang kayo dun. I don’t think you’ll reach Orchard at lunch time.
