How to treat a sty (kuliti in Filipino)?
My husband has a sty or what we call “kuliti” on his right eye for a few days now. He’s been complaining that it’s affecting his work especially when facing the computer because of the stingy pain in his eyelids. Earlier, I searched on home remedies for the treatment of sty or sties.
A sty is caused by an infected oil gland at the base of the eyelash. It is not an alarming eye problem since it does not affect the eye and the vision. A simple home remedy is to apply warm compresses to the affected area for 15 minutes. Do this 4 to 5 times a day until the sty heals and disappears. Usually, it will only last for 2-3 days.
Remember to keep your hands clean when touching the affected eye area to avoid further infection. If the sty does not heal after 3 days, it is best to see a doctor. Occasionally, sties may need to be drained and cleaned by a doctor and antibiotics may be prescribed.
I haven’t had a sty in quite awhile. I’ve found that cleansing the eyelid area on a regular basis with a wash clothe and warm water really helps to keep them at bay. Good post – short, to the point and informative.

sayang, it was too late when i read your post about sty. my son had one last week. but he was so worried to be teased at school that he pinched it thinking that it will be smaller by doing so. we’re in the hospital the following day because it was so swollen. we had to buy antibacterial eye ointment and oral antibiotics. sakit sa bulsa!

@Mr_D, try the home remedy I mentioned first, put a warm compress over the sty for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. If the sty doesn’t heal, then it’s best to consult a doctor on what meds to use.

It’s best to consult your doctor kasi baby pa sya. It will be uncomfortable for your baby.
I had a sty since yesterday, I thought I got bitten by the flying cockroach. I’ve been researching about how to cure it coz now is the 2nd day. I tried to do warm compress though not for 15min and my eyelid got bigger and reddish. So I had to cover my right eye w/ my bangs. Some blogs says warm compress but other says cold not sure w/c one is really effective.T_T

Will try to do warm compresses today. I heard that TOBRADEX is usually administered to styes. I have Neomycin B Sulfate-Dexamathasone at home and will apply it tonight before buying Tobradex tomorrow. Goodluck to me!

Ahh. Kakainis mag 2 wks nko may sty s right eye. Gusto ko ng operahin tangalin I hate it. Nag take n nga ako ng oral antibiotic at eye ointment dp din nwawala. Inooperahan b ung sty? Answer me im pls!! Tnx.

i have it right now.,as in right now po.,nung first 3 days, it was swollen, red and kinda painful.,i got scared and went to the doctor..they gave me Cloxacillin sodium [oral antibiotics] and Mytodex [antibacterial eye drops], plus warm compress for 5-10mins..pang 5th day ko na ngaun..medyo ok na sya.,and i think pagaling na..my advice is always finish the 7 days na pagte-take ng antibiotics.,and no missed doses din..sana gumaling na tau. :3

ako pinaopera ko kanina lng sometimes d lng sya kuliti para din daw pigsa yan n maliit tpos pbalik balik kya gnun kya need n malinis at maalis tlga ng maayos… ang akin 3 ung tumubo kya nag worry n me dats y i ask 4 operation nagastos ko 4k. ance na magkakuliti wag hahawakan just wash it w warm water at safe guard ung ang d best. trust me

id try using a warm tea bag, they seem to work best, especially the herbal ones, leave it on for a few hours and overnight the swelling should go down.

i currently have a sty on the upper lid of my left eye … pang third day na but this is my 2nd in the last 3 weeks. Yung previous sty ko, sa right eye naman.
i find that warm compress works best. 4x a day, mga 10-15 minutes yung application. then sinasabayan ko ng tobradex (suspension and ointment). the warm tea bags also help though i don’t leave it on my eye ng overnight.
today, the sty is gradually draining. by monday, i think wala na to (same as my first one, fully drained na by the 5th day).
when you have a sty, get lots of rest too, and drink plenty of fluids para lumabas ang infection sa katawan. also, refrain from touching your eyes kasi baka lumala lang. it’s a nuisance pero mas mahirap if it gets worse rather than getting better.

meron akong kuliti now.. this is the 2nd in just 2 months… and im really conscious about it.. affecting work and social life….my 1st sty was treated b the doctor….. through a minor surgery which involves a small inscision on the under side of the eye lid. after the operation the sty healed but aftera few days it went back again.. it caused me 3k + meds but to no avail… very persistent this things is..now im ttaking oral antibiotics and some anti bacterial eyedrops.. and according to my friends and some folks… pino style on treating this.. is to pull the some eye lashes near the infected area… im trying it now. pulled out some.. and w8 for results

almost 5 days na since i have one. siguro nakuha ko itong sty sa pagbabad sa computer and puyat din nung mga nakaraang araw. maybe dahil na rin sa hindi paghihilamos which i usually do before i sleep. right now medyo maliit na siya. tama yung hot compress and not cold. 2 days ko ginagawa yung cold compress, it helps to ease the pain pero pag gising ko sa umaga ay much painfull and swollen ito. then i tried the hot compress, same ang pakiramdam sa cold compress but i can see na mas mabilis ito lumiit. i also take some antibiotic. amoxycillin 250mg. i dont know kung tama ito? pero just as i said mas maliit na yung nasa mata ko.

3 years ago i had my sty removed at UST.. inadvised kc aq ng optha na mas ok if operahan na lang çoz uulet lang daw un… so ok na.. then just 2 weeks ago ngkaroon n nman aq… first warm compress and cloxa lang me.. pero d nawala parang nahinog lang xa.. so ngpunta ulet me sa optha then niremoved n nman xa.. wala nmang scar..ang problem lang is parang hindi lahat nakuha kc parang meron pang natira s lower eyelid… meron bang ibang gamot??? sabe kc ng doctor meron talagang tao na prone nsa kuliti.. ang malas q.. hahaha

Hello, Im nante, my GF had a sty since last year, this early year naging ok naman, pero recently bumabalik nanaman. We tried warm compress at mukhang nakukuha naman sya, put it on the bottle at idikit lang sa infected area for about 10-15 mins at importanteng wag kusutin, mag magusuot nalang din ng eye glass for protection.. Pero gusto ko na matigil yung pag hihirap nya kaya plan kong ipa tanggal na yung kuliti nya. nasa magkano kaya magagastos?

I also have a sty on my upper right eyelid for almost a month now. It irritates me because of its itchy and kind of painful feeling. I consulted a doctor when it occured early 2 days. I had previous styes and its really recurrent. My first sty occured on my upper left eyelid last jan 2010. It was gone after 2weeks. Then, my second sty was on my lower left eyelid last april 2011 and it was healed after a month and went on a clinical operation. The usual prescriptions that my doctor gave me was that of applying Tobradex Ointment, 3x a day. Then warm compresses for 10 mins, also 3 to 4 times daily for until it diminish. But it does not heal fast that’s why I end up requesting my doctor for an operation. It’s so hard especially for a very consciuos person like me. You know, I go out always wearing shades just to cover my sty even if its raining. Haaay!!!

Pinakaeffective ang Fucithalmic Ophthalmic Drops, 2 to 3 days maghe-heal ung sty mo, nabibili to sa mercury drug store around P420, pero effective sia. twice a day lang to ipatak sa mata tapos sabayan mo ng Cephorex 500mg sa mercury din. Although may generic nian, mas effective ung Cephorex 500 5mg, 2 days lang mawawala na to, kusa nitong pina-flush out ung namuo na nana sa loob..pinahihinog nia agad..Magandang combination to sa mga 1 month to 2 months na sly. Kpag naglagay ka ng Fucithalmic mararamdaman mo na parang mahapdi ung part ng pinakamata, normal lang iyon kc ibig sabihin nagpepenetrate na ung gamot at pinapatay nia na ung germs..:D

Me sty nanaman ako!! pero veteran na ko dito. hehe. usually ginagawa ko dito warm compress para mahinog agad. Tapos after 2-3 days lalabas na yung mata nun. pag nakita mo na yun mga less than a day na lang at pwede mo na sya pisilin. hehe. ubod nga lang nang sakit as-in sobra sakit. pero after nun mga 1 day lang magaling na sya. after a day wala na yung swelling nya. basta siguraduhin mo lang na ubusin yung nana sa loob.1st time ginawa sakin yun ng nurse sabog ang sipon ko. hahaha. di ko makalimutan yun. pag hindi mo raw kasi ginawa yun minsan tumutigas sa loob yung nana. yun yung mga inooperahan.

i had a sty too just 3 days ago, a friend adviced me to pluck a few eyelashes that were near the stingy part.. good thing is it works!! try taking coxacilin too, its 3 times a day after your meal, its an antibacterial, it prevents the sty from swelling..^^
