How to treat a sty (kuliti in Filipino)?
My husband has a sty or what we call “kuliti” on his right eye for a few days now. He’s been complaining that it’s affecting his work especially when facing the computer because of the stingy pain in his eyelids. Earlier, I searched on home remedies for the treatment of sty or sties.
A sty is caused by an infected oil gland at the base of the eyelash. It is not an alarming eye problem since it does not affect the eye and the vision. A simple home remedy is to apply warm compresses to the affected area for 15 minutes. Do this 4 to 5 times a day until the sty heals and disappears. Usually, it will only last for 2-3 days.
Remember to keep your hands clean when touching the affected eye area to avoid further infection. If the sty does not heal after 3 days, it is best to see a doctor. Occasionally, sties may need to be drained and cleaned by a doctor and antibiotics may be prescribed.
I haven’t had a sty in quite awhile. I’ve found that cleansing the eyelid area on a regular basis with a wash clothe and warm water really helps to keep them at bay. Good post – short, to the point and informative.

sayang, it was too late when i read your post about sty. my son had one last week. but he was so worried to be teased at school that he pinched it thinking that it will be smaller by doing so. we’re in the hospital the following day because it was so swollen. we had to buy antibacterial eye ointment and oral antibiotics. sakit sa bulsa!

@Mr_D, try the home remedy I mentioned first, put a warm compress over the sty for 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. If the sty doesn’t heal, then it’s best to consult a doctor on what meds to use.

for quite sometime now every year i have sty 1-3 times. currently i have 1 thats 2-3 weeks old. it keeps on coming back

mam pa help po kasi di ko na alaam gagawin ko dito sa kuliti ko masakit at nakaakahiya tumingin sa mga tao. grabi 6 na buwan na to at di pa gumagaling anu ba tama kung gawin wala pa namn akong pera para sa pag paalis nito

if it’s always painful it is actually a stye (kuliti), pero kung hindi probably that is a chalazion..(pero sana hindi naman/you may google them both) treatments are usually antibiotics (topical or oral).. and home remedy will be warm wash/warm compress on the affected eye.. my best advise is still get to your nearest doctor to check it out for you! because “sometimes” these two inflammation needs a surgical intervention to drain the excessive fluid inside your eyelid.. hope this one helps!
I had a sty since yesterday, I thought I got bitten by the flying cockroach. I’ve been researching about how to cure it coz now is the 2nd day. I tried to do warm compress though not for 15min and my eyelid got bigger and reddish. So I had to cover my right eye w/ my bangs. Will try to do warm compresses today. I heard that TOBRADEX is usually administered to styes. I have Neomycin B Sulfate-Dexamathasone at home and will apply it tonight before buying Tobradex tomorrow. Goodluck to me!

i’m a 6 months pregnant and i have a kuliti in my left lower eyelidi didn’t consult a doctor personally i just used gentamycin sulfate drops. wala n ung kuliti pero maga p rin mata ko at parang may ng-accumulate na tubig sa mata ko..what should i do? pls. help.

i have it right now.,as in right now po.,nung first 3 days, it was swollen, red and kinda painful.,i got scared and went to the doctor..they gave me Cloxacillin sodium [oral antibiotics] and Mytodex [antibacterial eye drops], plus warm compress for 5-10mins..pang 5th day ko na ngaun..medyo ok na sya.,and i think pagaling na..my advice is always finish the 7 days na pagte-take ng antibiotics.,and no missed doses din..sana gumaling na tau. :3

ako pinaopera ko kanina lng sometimes d lng sya kuliti para din daw pigsa yan n maliit tpos pbalik balik kya gnun kya need n malinis at maalis tlga ng maayos… ang akin 3 ung tumubo kya nag worry n me dats y i ask 4 operation nagastos ko 4k. ance na magkakuliti wag hahawakan just wash it w warm water at safe guard ung ang d best. trust me

id try using a warm tea bag, they seem to work best, especially the herbal ones, leave it on for a few hours and overnight the swelling should go down.

i currently have a sty on the upper lid of my left eye … pang third day na but this is my 2nd in the last 3 weeks. Yung previous sty ko, sa right eye naman.
i find that warm compress works best. 4x a day, mga 10-15 minutes yung application. then sinasabayan ko ng tobradex (suspension and ointment). the warm tea bags also help though i don’t leave it on my eye ng overnight.
today, the sty is gradually draining. by monday, i think wala na to (same as my first one, fully drained na by the 5th day).
when you have a sty, get lots of rest too, and drink plenty of fluids para lumabas ang infection sa katawan. also, refrain from touching your eyes kasi baka lumala lang. it’s a nuisance pero mas mahirap if it gets worse rather than getting better.

meron akong kuliti now.. this is the 2nd in just 2 months… and im really conscious about it.. affecting work and social life….my 1st sty was treated b the doctor….. through a minor surgery which involves a small inscision on the under side of the eye lid. after the operation the sty healed but aftera few days it went back again.. it caused me 3k + meds but to no avail… very persistent this things is..now im ttaking oral antibiotics and some anti bacterial eyedrops.. and according to my friends and some folks… pino style on treating this.. is to pull the some eye lashes near the infected area… im trying it now. pulled out some.. and w8 for results

almost 5 days na since i have one. siguro nakuha ko itong sty sa pagbabad sa computer and puyat din nung mga nakaraang araw. maybe dahil na rin sa hindi paghihilamos which i usually do before i sleep. right now medyo maliit na siya. tama yung hot compress and not cold. 2 days ko ginagawa yung cold compress, it helps to ease the pain pero pag gising ko sa umaga ay much painfull and swollen ito. then i tried the hot compress, same ang pakiramdam sa cold compress but i can see na mas mabilis ito lumiit. i also take some antibiotic. amoxycillin 250mg. i dont know kung tama ito? pero just as i said mas maliit na yung nasa mata ko.

3 years ago i had my sty removed at UST.. inadvised kc aq ng optha na mas ok if operahan na lang çoz uulet lang daw un… so ok na.. then just 2 weeks ago ngkaroon n nman aq… first warm compress and cloxa lang me.. pero d nawala parang nahinog lang xa.. so ngpunta ulet me sa optha then niremoved n nman xa.. wala nmang scar..ang problem lang is parang hindi lahat nakuha kc parang meron pang natira s lower eyelid… meron bang ibang gamot??? sabe kc ng doctor meron talagang tao na prone nsa kuliti.. ang malas q.. hahaha

Hello, Im nante, my GF had a sty since last year, this early year naging ok naman, pero recently bumabalik nanaman. We tried warm compress at mukhang nakukuha naman sya, put it on the bottle at idikit lang sa infected area for about 10-15 mins at importanteng wag kusutin, mag magusuot nalang din ng eye glass for protection.. Pero gusto ko na matigil yung pag hihirap nya kaya plan kong ipa tanggal na yung kuliti nya. nasa magkano kaya magagastos?

I also have a sty on my upper right eyelid for almost a month now. It irritates me because of its itchy and kind of painful feeling. I consulted a doctor when it occured early 2 days. I had previous styes and its really recurrent. My first sty occured on my upper left eyelid last jan 2010. It was gone after 2weeks. Then, my second sty was on my lower left eyelid last april 2011 and it was healed after a month and went on a clinical operation. The usual prescriptions that my doctor gave me was that of applying Tobradex Ointment, 3x a day. Then warm compresses for 10 mins, also 3 to 4 times daily for until it diminish. But it does not heal fast that’s why I end up requesting my doctor for an operation. It’s so hard especially for a very consciuos person like me. You know, I go out always wearing shades just to cover my sty even if its raining. Haaay!!!

Pinakaeffective ang Fucithalmic Ophthalmic Drops, 2 to 3 days maghe-heal ung sty mo, nabibili to sa mercury drug store around P420, pero effective sia. twice a day lang to ipatak sa mata tapos sabayan mo ng Cephorex 500mg sa mercury din. Although may generic nian, mas effective ung Cephorex 500 5mg, 2 days lang mawawala na to, kusa nitong pina-flush out ung namuo na nana sa loob..pinahihinog nia agad..Magandang combination to sa mga 1 month to 2 months na sly. Kpag naglagay ka ng Fucithalmic mararamdaman mo na parang mahapdi ung part ng pinakamata, normal lang iyon kc ibig sabihin nagpepenetrate na ung gamot at pinapatay nia na ung germs..:D

Me sty nanaman ako!! pero veteran na ko dito. hehe. usually ginagawa ko dito warm compress para mahinog agad. Tapos after 2-3 days lalabas na yung mata nun. pag nakita mo na yun mga less than a day na lang at pwede mo na sya pisilin. hehe. ubod nga lang nang sakit as-in sobra sakit. pero after nun mga 1 day lang magaling na sya. after a day wala na yung swelling nya. basta siguraduhin mo lang na ubusin yung nana sa loob.1st time ginawa sakin yun ng nurse sabog ang sipon ko. hahaha. di ko makalimutan yun. pag hindi mo raw kasi ginawa yun minsan tumutigas sa loob yung nana. yun yung mga inooperahan.

i had a sty too just 3 days ago, a friend adviced me to pluck a few eyelashes that were near the stingy part.. good thing is it works!! try taking coxacilin too, its 3 times a day after your meal, its an antibacterial, it prevents the sty from swelling..^^

This is my first time na magkaroon ng stye sa mata, nung una, hinde ko alam kung ano siya exactly, akala ko nakagat lang ako ng insect.
On the 1st day: nag-cold-compress ako nung umaga, nagsubside naman yung pamamaga pero after sometime, namaga ulet siya kinagabihan.
On the 2nd and 3rd day: nag hot-compress ako, pero di naman nawala, parang lalo pa nga siya namaga.
Ang itsura niya ay parang bukol lang siya sa left eyelid ko, walang nana and hinde makati, kaya pinabayaan ko na lang.
Mayroon pa rin until now and this is the 2nd week. Lumiliit naman siya pero gradual lang, kaya ko na sana tiisin until tuluyan na siyang lumiit and magheal pero worse comes to worst, meron na rin yung right eye ko!
Ang itsura naman nung nasa right eye ko, namamaga siya ngayon sa eyelid tapos may nana sa ilalim ng pilikmata. masakit siya pag pumi-pikit pero di namna siya makati. hay ang hirap.

Hello I just got home from Medical City today to have my eyes checked. the doctor prescribed an ointment, which should be applied on the eyelids before going to sleep, but i requested if he can just prescribed me eyedrops type which i preferred. i also asked him if i need to take oral antibiotics and he replied no need, just the eyedrops and hot compress will be enough.
he said to come and see him for a follow-up visit, if my eyes didn’t get better after 2-3 weeks and that if the condition worsens. he will check again and suggest surgery, but it will still be under my discretion if i want to proceed or not, but already made a letter of recommendation (Medicard) just incase i decided to proceed.
the surgery is done under local anesthetic so the patient will not feel pain during the procedure. the cut is made at the back of the eyelid and this makes it invisible with no need for stitches. patients who undergo this type of surgery can go home on the day after the operation.

I use to have a sty from time to time at nasanay na rin naman ako. Pero nakakabahala lang talaga sya kasi masakit and sagabal sya sa ginagawa. Hindi kasi komportable na meron nito. Hi guys ask ko lng po kasi last week saturday ako nagkaron ng kuliti then After mga ilan days e kagabi my lumabas na nana and dugo pakonti konti lang. Pero bat parang walang pagbabago ang laki parin nya, halos sarado parin ang right eye ko. Ang iniinom ko is antibiotic named cycloxilin for 1 week. 3x a day. Ako po I think mga December or Lastweek of Nov. nagka sty po ako ngoinment po ako then antibiotics.Medyo naheal nman po siya then after some months bumalik po siya.kada umaga po medyo it seems na lumalaki siya but pag ngtagal d n po..d nmn po masakit kaya lng matigas then minsan nangngati.3 po sty ko ngayon.ngpatingin n po ako sa doctor pero binigyan lang po ako ult ng ointment at antibiotics.Pero sabi niya paulit ulit daw talaga yung sty kahit ipaopera.Siyempre po kahit di masyadong serious illness ang sty natatakot pa din po ako mgpaopera at sk po baka kasi lumala pa ito..pabalik balik nalang po..Sana gumaling n tayong lahat.God bless

Hi people! Gaya nyo may sty din ako. Hehe. Kanina nag pa consult na ko sa optha, kala ko nga nung una blepharitis or inflamation of eyelids, un kasi ang sinearch ko sa net. Buti nalang nag consult ako sa optha at nalaman ko na sty nga sya at di na ako nagasocial pa na meron akong blepharitis… Hehehe. Anyway, kung ang tanong nyo eh mag consult ba ng doctor or home remedy muna, ang sagot ay pareho, but i suggest since alam mo na na hot compress nga ang dapat gawin, eh gawin mo na yun agad agad, then punta ka na ng optha mo agad agad rin, at sabi ko sayo, agad agad din na sasabihin nya na hot compress, hehe. Yan ang sabi ng optha ko kanina, dpat masipag ka mag hot compress kung gusto mo mawala kagad. Syempre binigyan din, este niresetahan din nya ako ng eye drops at antibacterial antibiotic. Buti nalang may Hmo card kami, pro naka 500 din ako sa lahat ng gamot. At ito pa pala, di ko nabasa to dito pero ako kasi iniinuman ko ng mefanamic ponstan para di sumakit, at effective naman ito, kaya lang after 12hrs nawawala epekto sumsakit ulit at ininuman ko lang ulit ng ponstan at yun parang wala na naman. Ang di ko alam kung ok lang kaya yun? Anyway sana nakatulong po ako. At sana matnggal na tong cute na sty na to na palamula sa aking mata at eylid. Para tuloy akong nasuntok…. Hayyy badtrip!

matagal na saken mga halos 2 years saka ako nagpacheck up kase di ko pinapansin dati di nmn kase masakit at di din mapula basta matigas nlng, ng mapansin kong lumalaki na ska ako nagpacheck up then sbi need na operahan peru nagtanung ako bka pwd muna ako magmed bgo maoperahan bka lumiit pa so pumayag nmn siya 2 weeks ako nag gamut, ung drops na maxitrol ang bngay at ska warm compress nga. nung nalaman nya na ang work ko ay online job,natanung niya kung ilang oras ako nakababad.sbi ko almost 24 hrs daily bsta max na ung 16hrs dun siya nag advice na wag magpuyat peru di ko kase maiwasan dagdag din nia ipatak ko ung gamut pag magpupuyat then maghugas lagi ang kamay,un nga gnwa ko, in one week i didnt see any progress so bumalik ako agad sa EENT sbi ko parang di nmn lumiliit kaya that time nagpasked siya ng operation un e kinabukasan na then nag gmut ulit ako after operahan,ointment and drops na maxitrol ska antibiotic mura lang mga 4k lng lahat halos ksma na meds. kase ung operasyon nsa 2k lng.
after 6 mos merun na nmn so bka di natanggal lhat nung inuperahan or dhl lagi na nmn akong puyat kya bumalik ako ulit ke doc sa EENT bngyan ulit ako ng drops maxitrol ska clindamycin then warm compress lalo na pag magpapatak ayon lumiit nmn then after 2 mos lumaki bgla na tingin ko ang cause ee nung burol ng lolo namin 3 consecutive days kase halos wla akong tulog,un matigas na siya bka mamaya ung namuomuong nana na nmn to at need na namang operahan kya sna pa share ung mas epektibo para lumambot ito nung gsang araw kase pumutok naman peru nagnana ulit.

i do have may kuliti also, pabalik’balik nga po ee. mag’5 months na! di parin po gumagaling. tapos nagkakasugat na po sa labas na mata ko. kapag kumakati, nakakaroon na nana. Nakakainis po, kasi nag’aaral pa po ako. tinatakpan ko nalang po sa buhok ko. ano po bang dapat gawin? delikado po ba ito?

Hi analyn..have u consulted an ophthalmologist already? Warm compress is usually the first remedy for sty but if it doesnt work alone, u shud start taking cloxacillin 500mg 3-4x a day for a week together with an eye ointment. Usually Maxitrol or Post op oint is given.

wla na ung saken,nag warm compress lng ako ng nag warm compress mag 3 weeks nang wala,di ko alam ganun kalakas ung warm compress,kaya sundin niu ung post dito na 4 to 5 o higit pa,kase ung saken na malaki may namuo at tumigas nang nana nawala tlga,kht maghapon magdamag akong puyat di na tlga bumalik,dati kht umaga palang malaki na agad, ung tira kong isang clindamycin na gamut ko pa nung naoperahan itong sa mata ko ininum ko tapos sinabayan ko lagi ng warm compress,3 to 4 days akong nag warm compress magkakasunud na araw un.
