Dining Bollywood Style in Gaylord Indian Restaurant, HK

Jeff came from a run with his fellow HK hashers and he said someone from the group recommended a good Indian restaurant near where we are staying. Gaylord Indian Restaurant is the name of the place, it’s a Michelin-starred restaurant and has been operational since 1972.

We arrived past 9 pm, way past dinner time so there were only a few occupied tables. We were seated comfortably in the sofa inside an alcove, in front of us was live Indian music playing. Hah! I thought, this is how to dine Bollywood style.

A complimentary basket Papadums or Papad were served while we scanned their menu for our orders. From Wiki, Papadum or papad is a thin, crisp disc-shaped Indian and Pakistani food typically based on a seasoned dough usually made from peeled black gram flour, fried or cooked with dry heat. Pickles and mint chutney also came with the papad.

Judging from the Gaylord’s ambiance, I knew that the menu will be on the pricey side. Their Chicken Masala, which we ordered, is 116 HKD. Gwen and I were still full from our ice cream prior to this so we just ordered Garlic Naan to munch.

The Chicken Masala is a light chicken curry with onion and coriander. This is big on spices and you can really taste them in every bite. However, Jeff requested to tone down the heat.

I love their super soft Garlic Naan bread, albeit greasy. I used it to scoop some sauce of Jeff’s Chicken Masala.
