Cheap accommodations in Hong Kong

After posting my entry on Hong Kong Disneyland, I received some inquiries asking where we stayed and some itineraries for their Hong Kong vacation. So before I unravel more Hong Kong-Macau escapades, I’ll share you some cheap Hong Kong hotels, Hong Kong hostels and guesthouses that are suited for your budget.

I did my homework months before our HK trip that’s why I was able to narrow down my choices to 3 accommodations, and then finally decided to stay at HK Taisan Guesthouse to save on money of accommodation and more for shopping and food trips.

HK Taisan Guesthouse

http://www.hktaisanguesthouse.com/eng/index.htm

Adress: MTR Station Exit B1 , 15th Flr., Burlington House., 91-94 Nathan Rd, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
Telephone reception : (852) 2366 8273 (Ate Yolly’s number/Taisan Store 1) or 2366 8414

Most HK travellers recommended this hostel/guesthouse for first-timers, it has a very good location because: it’s along Nathan Road, with free computer with Internet, the airpot bus stop is just in front of the building where Taisan is located, very near shopping places, accessible to most tourist spots in TST, free rice for breakfast, very near the MTR Station (Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit B1), and has a nice view of Kowloon Park if your room has a window facing Nathan Road. Aside from that, the one manages Taisan Store 1 is a Filipina, Ate Yolly, and she’s very friendly you’ll feel at home. You may check their website for room rates but for the Family Room that we availed which can accomodate 4 people with 1 double bed and 1 single bed is 500 HKD per night.

Golden Crown Guesthouse

http://www.goldencrownhk.com/newg/homeeng.html

Adress: 13th Flr., 5th Flr. Golden Crown Court, 66-70 Nathan Road, TsimShaTsui, Kowloon
TEL: (852) 2369 1782 FAX: (852) 2368 1740

This is my second choice since location-wise and the room rates are very similar with HK Taisan Guesthouse. The downside is there’s no computer inside the room unlike in Taisan although you can use the computer at the reception area when needed. You also have to pay for the room deposit via Paypal, Taisan didn’t require any deposit as long as you arrive before 12 noon.

Hotel Benito

http://www.hotelbenito.com/eng/index.htm

Adress: 7-7B Cameron Road, Tsimshatsui, Kowloon
Tel: (852) 3653 0388
Fax: (852) 2369 1283

Hotel Benito is a boutique hotel but I also considered this because sometimes, they have promos in Asiatravel.com wherein you get 1 free night if you availed their Early Bird reservation promo. The rooms are impressive, I kept this hotel in mind when we have the chance to visit HK again and when we have some moolah to spare.

For your Hong Kong itineraries, I am still not an expert in Hong Kong after my 2 visits but shoot me an email if you need help or reply to this post if you want to get lost in Hong Kong like me, kidding! I also recommend the Hong Kong thread in Pinoy Exchange for the very helpful and detailed discussion on all things Hong Kong, visit their newest thread, Hongkong for Dummies, I will be forever grateful to the makers of this thread.

    again thank you so much…

  4. Hi badet!very informative tong blog mo..and i was so thankful na nakapunta ako sa site mo..i read a lot abt going to HK..first time din kasi namin to go there..by oct ang arrival date namin..i already talked to ate yolly and made our reservation at HK taisan gh..just worried abt not receiving a confirmation email fr ken regarding our reservation..is it ok if i haven’t received any confirmation?i have with me naman the copy of my reservation deposit thru western union..okay na ba yun as a proof even without the confirmation email?
ngapala, parang wala ako nabasa abt food kng saan yung masarap kainan na very affordable din.can you help us with this wala kasi ako idea.ano masa-suggest mo?
and one more thing, gusto ko maexperience sa HK yung mga night market, san ba okay pumunta na malapit lang sa taisan gh?do you recommend going to night markets lalo na sa mga first timers?
    thank you very much, Badet!!

Hi marge, yes ok na yung Western Union copy as proof. Or para sure, call Ate Yolly na lang directly para mas malinaw ang reservations nyo.
I have a blog about Hong Kong food, just browse my blog.

Malapit lang ang Temple St. night market sa Taisan. Pwedeng lakarin or ride ng MTR, 1 station away lang naman. OK din sa Ladies night market in Mongkok. Ok naman pumunta saw night markets just for the experience and if you’re just shopping for souvenirs like tshirts, keychains, ballpens… Pero pag mga damit, shoes, I’d rather shop in 168 or Divisoria.

  5. hello badet…

we have plan for hk this 3rd week of oct…we are 6 adults and 1 kid…for 8days….pwede na ba kami sa quadruple….para save ng konti….ang reservation ba 1 month before dapat naka reserve na kami sa taisan……un bang 3 branches ng taisan magkaka tabi lang sila…..i’m planning to call ate yolly next week….

Thank you for your very informative site. Just wanted to get additional help on you regarding our HK trip this December 9-14. We are planning to stay in either Taisan or Golden Crown instead of getting any accomodation in Mirador and Chungking as I have heard it’s smaller than the usual rooms. Is it better to get a room for 2 in Taisan or better if Golder Crown?

    Please advise.

    Thank you!

was able to book Taisan na din c/o Ate Yolly. I called her just this morning and thankfully avail pa yung triple room nila for our travel dates & she said we can use their kitchen anytime for cooking. yehey tipid bfast meals! (baka dinner na din)

btw, I paid the HKD600 DP via paypal tho may slight concern ako kasi i picked the ‘online purchase’ part so yung marerecieve nila less than HKD 600 (i think less 7% transaction fee?) sana hindi naman magkaproblema ang reservation namin coz anyway we will settle the remaining balance naman when we get there.

We’re considering Carlton Guesthouse and Golden Crown Guesthouse, pero dahil po sa rave reviews dito, might as well consider Taisan din. 🙂 ask ko lang po kung kakasya po ang 5 adults sa quad room nila? Pag nag inquire po ba ako kay Ate Yolly, should I state na 5 adults will occupy the room? May ensuite pong T&B sa mga rooms nila?

First time overseas trip po namin as a family kaya medyo rattled ako sa pagpaplan ng accomodations and Iti namin. =S we’ll be arriving via Clark on 31st of May and will be leaving HK 🙁 on the 4th of June.

    Hi Marsy,

You should declare that you are 5 adults, bawal kasi ang sneak in sa mga guesthouse eh. Also note that guesthouses are small lang like sa Taisan. Yung space sa Taisan, space na lang yun for your luggages. So you need to have two rooms talaga. Ensuite T&B sa Taisan.

Tried searching her sa FB pero hindi ko sya ma hanap 🙁 Anyway, my hubby and I will be in HK Feb next year to join a marathon. Tried inquiring sa Harirela branch nila (before I saw this blog) for reservation but Ken email me that I have to contact him again on August coz it’s too early to book. Dapat daw within 6 months. We might as well stay in Burlington branch nlng coz pinoy ang mag aasist sa amin 🙂 We will be arriving super early–0050 H on Feb 2 and leave 0135 H on Feb 5. I hope they don’t have any problem with early check-in coz sayang din if considered 1 day na. No itinerary yet except for the marathon on Feb 3. No plans of going to Disneyland and Ocean Park coz we plan of coming back with our kids na. This trip is more like of a familiarization sa place para sa next trip.hehehe I hope there are other places u can suggest for us. More of sightseeing, food trip and maybe a little shopping 🙂 Thanks in advance.

By the way, I researched and February is winter there. Is 16 degrees really that cold? hehehe nakita ko kasi na u were there on February too… takot lng ako baka di ako mka run sa lamig ng panahon..hehehe Thanks again.

Hi Krizzy, wow, you’ll be there for the Standard Chartered marathon :). Yes, same number pa rin ni Ate Yolly. Please check their rates too, I think nag-increase na sila.
For sightseeing, go to Victoria Peak and Ngong Ping na lang.
Check out Citygate Outlets na rin, they have outlet stores of Nike, New Balance and other sports brands there. 🙂

  46. Hi, Badet. Just want you to know that your blog is really very informative. Keep it coming! I just have a question, though. How did you call Taisan 1 to reserve your accommodation and pay your initial deposit? I’m having a hard time contacting them. I’ve email them several times and I do not get any response. I can’t call them thru Sype either. Appreciate your response. Thanks,

    Hi Khatchee,

I called this number: (852) 2366 8273. Not to discourage you ha, but Taisan already increased their rates and I heard not so good feedback regarding reservations. You might want to try Golden Crown.

If it’s your first time, some immigration officers might ask for a a hotel reservation. I recommend getting one para hassle free na rin sa inyo.

    Hi Sam,
Ok na siguro for show money. In case of shopping emergencies, just bring a credit card with you. If you will not shop in HK, ok na yan backpacks for the two of you.
