It’s Make Your Own Havaianas 2010 once again, MYOH event is now on its fifth year. Havaianas fanatics will surely be lining up again at Rockwell Tent on April 22-26, 2010 to get their hands on customized pairs of Havaianas. What should we look forward to this Make Your Own Havaianas 2010:

By offering a number of stylish, new options- from silver Letter Pins and Swarovski-Studded Pins to Jelly, Fluorescent and Glow-In-The-Dark straps and a Philippine-designed Commemorative Sole and Pin, this year’s Make Your Own Havaianas provides more style options than ever before.

I’m pretty sure the patriotic designed-sole will be the first one to get sold out. I’m not sure if I’ll go this year, I think I’m already past my Havaianas addiction, and there’s still a lot more pairs still in their boxes for me to wear. =)

For first-timers, here are some tips to make your Make Your Own Havaianas event enjoyable:

1. Go to Rockwell Tent VERY EARLY. If you can go at 8 am or 9 am, then do so, you won’t believe how crazy lines can get from 10 am onwards. 2 years ago, we fell in line 11 am and got inside the tent past 4pm already!

2. Be prepared before the event. Eat heavy breakfast so you won’t mind staying long in the lines or inside the tent. Have your pen ready because you’ll need it when filling out the info sheet to customize your pair. Ask for the brochure while falling in line so that you can already decide which color combination and MYOH pins to include.

3. Wear comfortable clothes. There’s no air conditioning available inside and outside the tent, just huge fans. And with all the people inside, expect it to be hot and humid. Wear your most comfortable outfit, wear your Havaianas.

4. Bring a companion. Your companion will be really a lot of help for this event, to tell stories to while falling in line, to take your pictures, to help you decide what colors and pins, to fall in line at the cashier while you’re still wandering around the event.

5. Maximize your MYOH experience. This happens only once a year so make plenty of customized Havaianas pairs not just for you but for family and friends. A MYOH pair is a perfect gift for someone so why not grab the opportunity to make unique gifts.

6. Credit cards are accepted.

Online ukay-ukay shopping

Online ukay-ukay shopping or thrift shopping became mainstream nowadays. And wearing an ukay clothing is considered cool rather than yucky. I went to a couple of ukay stores scattered around the metro and bought some good finds too. One should be really picky when ukay shopping though… my one really cheapo find is a black off-shoulder top that I wore for the music video we made last Christmas.

I got intrigued with online ukay shopping so I browsed though Multiply stores and one famous site (because it’s already featured on TV) caught my fancy. Most of her clothes are sold out, just minutes the album was posted. The photos are enticing too, clothes can pass up as brand new. So one Sunday evening, I was very excited to have my first bid of ukay clothes, I immediately posted “Buy it now” for this one…

Nice right? But after receiving it in the mail, my excitement went to disappointment =(. The dress is a little worn out that I expected. And the sequins details in the letters A and O (from the pic) are already falling off. I guess I’m not just lucky on my find because some girls are really raving about their ukay finds from that store. Well, it’s really difficult to find a keeper online. Buying clothes online isn’t my cup of tea because I have an abnormal body proportions, I have to fit the clothes before buying them. ONLINE ukay shopping isn’t for me, but still, YES, to ukay shopping!

Bazaar season is here

When BER months enter the scene, most entrepreneurs are getting all excited because it’s the bazaar season once again. Its the time of the year when people are on a shopping and spending roll so that means more income for bazaaristas. I, for one, is an avid fan of bazaars, especially the World Bazaar Festival at the World Trade Center. It’s a big week-long bazaar with plenty of concessionaires, bazaar-goers flock to this bazaar every year to shop for gifts and personal items. Aside from the unique merchandise offered at bazaars, what I also consider when going to a bazaar is the organization, safety and crowd control inside the area. Things can get chaotic in there especially during weekends so some barricades were put up by the bazaar organizers to ensure the safety of shoppers and concessionaires.

I’m not only a bazaar shopper but I was a consignor at the Noel Bazaar also held at the World Trade Center 2 years ago. It was a short stint for additional exposure to my online shop but seeing my merchandise admired by other people and earned a decent profit from a week-long event had me beaming with joy. Last year, my officemate-slash-entrepreneur friend suggested we should join bazaars but I was really hesitant then because I’m not prepared with the bazaar materials needed. Of course, I wanted to make my booth look nice and inviting too, I wanted to make my space orderly like putting up stanchions and velvet rope and make use of the small space as much as possible.

This year, I hope that I will be braver to take risks and push my entrepreneurial skills to the next level. Well, if not, I will always be a bazaar shopper. So watch out for my list of bazaars this Christmas season.

Watch this: an addition to our Casio Protrek watches

If there’s one accessory I can’t leave without, it’s a watch. My wrist feels naked without wearing one. This is one fetish I share with my husband, Jeff. According to him, a man can only wear few accessories than women and one of them is a watch so why not invest on a good brand. We both love the outdoors and I tag along whenever there’s an easy mountain to climb. When climbing mountains, aside from being self-sustained, we can always climb in style with our Casio Protrek watches.

Casio Protrek PRG 110

Jeff’s first Protrek watch is a PRG-40-3VDR and since then, he started collecting Casio Protrek Watches. The two latest addition from the collection is the PRG-110Y-1V (PAW1300) which we bought in Hong Kong for almost half the price of the selling price here in Manila. It’s an ABC watch, meaning it has an Altimeter, Barometer and Compass. Very handy for an outdoor person. What I like about this watch is the inverted LCD design and the slim design. It’s Tough Solar too, just let it catch some sunlight to charge the watch.

Casio Protrek PRG 140

For moi, I had difficulty finding the one that will fit my small wrist. But the PRG-140T-7V (PAW500-1V) hugs my wrist perfectly. Perhaps, the watch is really made for women. And because the local Casio store at the mall sells this at a higher price than Amazon.com, we have to order the watch from the latter. Thanks to Johnny Air Cargo, even if I have to add up JAC’s charges, the price of the watch still came cheaper. The PRG 140 is only an AB watch (Altimeter and Barometer) but I don’t mind. Having a sports watch is a perennial item on my wishlist since my purple Nike sports watch.

Shopping in the US has never been easy with Johnny Air Cargo

Shopping online from favorite stores in the US and receiving it here in the Philippines is now possible. Thanks to forwarding companies like Johnny Air Cargo. We used JAC to forward our Casio Protrek watches bought in Amazon.com. We’ve been wanting to buy stuffs from US sites but we’re always hindered because of exorbitant shipping charges aside from the customs duties and taxes we have to pay at the post office. But not anymore with JAC, everybody can shop in the US, have a US address and receive packages here in the Philippines.

Johnny Air Cargo’s rates are very reasonable, they charge $ 7.50 per pound plus $ 5 handling fee for electronic items and other taxable items. I am vouching for JAC’s very efficient and fast service, we ordered the watches from Amazon last Tuesday, June 16, and we already got a text message today, June 24, from JAC Megamall branch that our items are ready for pick-up. We paid around Php 1200 for the two watches, no bribery and no other hidden charges. The communication with their New York correspondent, Analyn Diego, is fast. Another thing is that the people from their New York office is kind enough to consolidate the packages into one, since we ordered two watches coming from two different merchants, I specifically informed them to expect two packages. And here’s what we received today…
