Here’s my first post about Christmas gift ideas, I hope to help in your Christmas giving needs. First suggestion would be towels and bed linens. Yeah it sounds generic but it’s very practical and useful. Everyone needs towels and linens for their homes. Too bad I wasn’t able to hoard much towels and bedsheets during the S&R Members Treat Sale last September.

But I hope to find great deals online from Ebay, Amazon or The White Company.

Christmas towels

I like to stock on new towels at the house for visitors, yes, guest towels are a welcome treat right. This way, guests will be comfortable while staying with us.

Who could not resist the smell and feel of fresh sheets? For someone like me who loves sleeping and staying in bed, bed sheets are nice gifts. Look for linens that are made of 100% cotton and with a higher thread count for a luxurious slumber time.

Groupons or group buying sites became a hit this year, and the list of groupon sites or group buying sites are increasing. Who would resist a 50% off deal from a posh hotel, a fancy restaurant, a travel deal, etc.? I am registered with plenty of group buying sites too, CashCashPinoy, Ensogo, Awesome.ph, Deal Dozen, Deal Grocer, even Ebay has Ebay Kuponan. I get pumped up just by receiving their emails in my inbox everyday and how much I can save if I availed of the deals. I got groupon crazy, I bought deals right away, sometimes buying two coupons for that deal. Blame it on my Gcash wallet and Paypal, I have enough “virtual” funds from both that it’s very easy to just buy online with a few clicks.

But can groupons really provide savings? Or it’s just a false economy? I know this business has a great degree of online influence. I just want to be fully aware of slick marketing degree online techniques and tricks from any establishment. I’ve had my share of expired and unused groupons because I realized that it’s too far and I’m too lazy to find a hidden establishment in Makati. The 2 vouchers from Shui Hilot Spa also expired because they can only accommodate me during their off-peak hours, and that’s the time I’m at work. I learned my lesson and managed to keep my groupon buying at a minimum.

Here are some tips before buying those irresistible deals online:

Consider the location of the merchant. If the merchant that’s offering a 50% discount is located at The Fort, and you’re living in Bulacan or any far place from Taguig, then think if the deal is really worth the travel time and transportation cost. You may be able to save 50% from that merchant but what about your other expenses going there like taxi fares, bus fares, gas, etc..

Availability and reservations. It is important to read the fine print of the deal. Sometimes, the deal can only be availed on weekdays or at certain times of the day usually their off-peak hours. If you’re working on weekdays and have to use a groupon, is it worth taking a leave from work just so you can use that groupon?

Browse the restaurant’s menu online. Let’s say there’s a good restaurant deal, pay only Php 250 for Php 500 worth of food. By studying the menu, you found out that an appetizer dish already costs Php 500. So, the deal is not really good unless you just plan to strictly use the voucher, meaning order the appetizer and just have water and then just leave. In our experience, we always have additional orders like drinks and desserts so we have to pay extra aside from the voucher’s worth.

Do you really need it? Sometimes, a 90% off discount is very hard to pass. But do you really need it or you’re too just psyched with the huge discount? Or perhaps you saw that some 20 thousand people bought the deal and you want to be part of that crowd who thought they got the best deal?

Research about the merchant’s background and feedback. Especially if you don’t know the merchant, try to google some feedback about them first. Maybe the reason why they are offering huge discounts is because they have a lot of negative feedback and they need new customers.

I hope you’ll keep these tips in mind before buying all those great deals. So you think you saved from groupons, think again…

Please share your own groupon tips and the best groupon deals you had so far at the comments section.

The Ber months are here, and Christmas is fast approaching. To be able to avoid the holiday rush, it’s important to start stocking up for gifts as early as now. And it’s a great time to start shopping because almost all stores are on their end-of-season sale and pre-holiday sales.

Canon 3-day Sale, September 9-11, 2011, Tiendesitas:

Up to 70% off on Canon digital cameras.

Canon 3 Day Sale 2011

Crumpler Sale, September 9-18, 2011:

Up to 50%-70% off on all items.

Crumpler Sale 2011

MSI-ECS Warehouse Sale, September 13-16, 2011:

Up to 80% off on Apple, Belkin, Samsung, HP, Dell, Sony, Buffalo, etc. products. This Microwarehouse Sale is definitely worth checking out for all the geeks out there!

Microwarehouse Sale 2011

I promised myself to carefully plan what gift to give this year. Because I wasn’t able to shop to the max last year due to my pregnancy. Planning ahead will also save me more money because I can compare prices since I’m in no hurry. This is also an advice I gave to a friend who is wracking his brains on what will be his 1st christmas gifts for girlfriend.

Whatever it is, just shop wisely and don’t buy anything that you won’t need.

Primer Group is the one responsible for all these brands and they will be having a Bodega Sale 2011 in Binondo this August 1 to August 6, 2011. I always look forward for their annual bodega sale because this is where I got my Samsonite luggage for 70% off, woot! Besides, my friend said that Charles & Keith in Singapore is more like an ordinary brand there, so it’s cheaper. As much as I wanted to buy 2 bags or a pair of shoes, I’m considering the lack of space in our luggage already. So one bag is enough…

I first encountered the term mystery shopping 3 years ago at the Girltalk forum. Apparently, mystery shopping is already known in the US and is used for the improvement of customer service. Here in the Philippines, I signed up with Satisfind out of sheer curiosity on how to be a mystery shopper. That was 3 years ago and I only got to do 2 projects for them. One is to do grocery shopping and another is to rate the customer service provided by a certain jeans boutique. Mystery shopping is quite exciting, it requires being attentive to what the sales assistants are doing because you’re going to assess them and answer their survey form online after your mystery shopping stint. It can’t be considered as another source of income through, it’s just for pure fun. I only got a Php 300 gift certificate for the grocery mystery shopping and a Php 500 as a token for the boutique mystery shopping.

The only requirement to be a mystery shopper is you have to be at least 18 years old. If you want to experience being a mystery shopper, register at their site. If you know of other companies who are looking for mystery shoppers, post it here.

Have you heard of Coogi? It’s an Australian clothing brand made famous by The Cosby Show’s Heathcliff Huxable and by The Notorious B.I.G. I’m also not familiar with the brand either, mainly because it’s a hip-hop brand and primarily caters to men. It’s considered as an upscale brand before but now, they’re also catering to the masses. Young adults can definitely find something nice among their collections of sweaters, jackets, sneakers, jeans and shirts. Their site is on-sale, check it out!
