Food Finds: Taste n See Toasted Pastillas and Rodillas Yema Cake

I’ve been seeing a lot of food sellers on Instagram offering Taste N See Toasted Pastillas and Rodillas Yema Cake. I was curious but holding back from ordering online since I don’t want my food to be squished during shipping. During our visit to Robinsons Magnolia, there was a food bazaar near the food court and I saw one store selling Rodillas Yema Cake. What happens next is me unboxing my yema cake at home.

Thai cooking with Withlocals.com

You haven’t traveled until you have eaten the food. This is what I believe when I travel. I’m glad I discovered Withlocals.com a few months ago. It lets you experience to dine and cook in a local’s house, it can’t get any authentic than that.

During our Bangkok trip, I made sure to book an experience with Withlocals. I chose the one offered by Predaphol “Cook like a local!”. Not only we get to have a hearty lunch of Thai dishes, we get to learn to cook a few Thai dishes. Upon booking, Predophol or Phoom as his nickname, sent the menu and asked if we have special requests. Jeff likes Green Chicken Curry so I specifically mentioned that. We scheduled our Thai lunch on our 2nd day in Bangkok, our host, Phoom, gave his number and kept in touch during our trip. He even waited for us at the BTS station Chong Nonsi near his restaurant i-Gourmet. Yes, this guy is a chef so you’re sure to have a delicious meal with him.

Thaicoon at SM North Edsa’s Food Court

I have a confession to make, I rarely eat at food courts. I’m not being a snob but this happens to me always, my food when I eat here is always a hit or miss. Inconsistent, of course these aren’t from the usual fastfood chain which are sometimes present there. Yesterday was an exemption, I wanted to have a free Coca-Cola Collectible Glass which is a promo when you eat at SM Food Court so I went on searching for a store to buy our lunch. I chanced upon Thaicoon, and from the store’s design and colors (and also its name), I knew that they serve Thai food. I was quite surprised to find a store inside a food court that serves Thai cuisine. The menu looks promising and they are affordable too.

Project Pie at SM North Edsa

I’ve heard about Project Pie months ago when they first opened in Mandaluyong. The idea of making your own customized pizza excites me, but since it’s too far, I’ll have to wait out a bit for a branch to open near my place. Finally, Project Pie opens up a branch in SM North Edsa, it is located at the Upper Ground Floor of the Main Building, beside Cinderella. As expected for a newly opened resto, lines are longer than usual.

Pastillas in my Kabigting’s Halo-halo

Halo-halo is the perfect Pinoy cooler during summer. Most Filipino restaurants have their own version, from the affordable ones in fastfood such as Chowking and to the most expensive like The Peninsula Manila’s halo-halo. My personal favorite is Razon’s halo-halo, I like my halo-halo simple, not too many ingredients and with a generous amount of milk. Last Sunday, Jeff was craving for halo-halo but there’s no Razon’s near our place. Then I suddenly remembered an episode at Rated K featuring Kabigting’s Halo-halo in Banawe.
