Since bazaars are everywhere, let us not forget to be a responsible and environment-conscious individual. Most sellers/booths in bazaars use plastic bags when you shop, you can’t blame them because that’s the cheapest packaging they can come up with. The initiative to say NO TO PLASTIC should come to us, shoppers. I’m sure we all have lots of ecobags piled up in our homes, bring one when going to bazaars and just dump your items as you shop.

I brought my Healthy Options ecobag at the 10th World Bazaar Festival:

eco-bag

say NO to plastic

See, NO plastic. Plus, it makes you carry all your purchases conveniently with just one big ecobag.

On other shopping tips, I read some horrible news about pickpocket incidents in bazaars. So I suggest wearing a body bag and always position the bag in front of you. Just bring enough cash, I suggest leaving your credit cards too unless you have an rfid blocking wallet. There’s also such a thing as electronic pickpocketing in which somebody can scan your credit card infos through RFID.

If the policemen in our country are responsible for peace and order, then a green police is responsible for air quality and pollution control.

The modern Green Police are an environmental task force comprised of collaborative law enforcement groups assembled to crack down on emissions in large US metropolitan cities.

It is assembled as the active arm of political debates amongst policy holders in the fight against climate change. Also, it is seen by agencies as some of the first real world action in the United States since the discussion in Copenhagen.

Honestly, I cringe at the sight of a police, it’s as if they’re out on the street to give you tickets for a traffic violation and to ask you for some bribe, aaah the reputation of kotong cops. But upon knowing the objectives of a green police, I wish all countries should train people on how to be one. It will be a very challenging job especially at these times but all countries must unite in solving the chronic pollution problem globally.

air pollution everywhere

Don’t you like to wake up one morning and see the clear and bright horizon instead of smog? I’m sure everyone would love to have a breathe of the freshest of air. But the present situation makes a clean air environment go bleak. Some non-government organizations (NGOs) are doing big steps to fight climate change, if those will not suffice, a new career for environmentalists should be green police.

Last Holy Week, my husband Jeff and his outdoor group, PHINOE, had their successful climb in Mt. Apo. As usual, Jeff showed me magnificent photos of Mt. Apo. But what caught my attention is this:

trash left in Mt. Apo

Ironically, the unsightly trash belong to the group of Sec. Ace Durano when they had their climb as part of promoting Mt. Apo in the tourism industry. Another website is talking about the irresponsible mountaineering made by the group by leaving their tarpaulin hanging in one of the boulders. The mountain is not a good spot for a campaign.

taken from: http://www.istorya.net/forums/politics-and-current-events/187445-sec-durano-namulitika-sa-mt-apo.html

The image above was taken by a mountaineer while he was passing the boulder section of Mt. Apo last holy week . Sec. Durano and his group of climbers LEFT this tarpaulin in the boulder section of the mountain and DID NOT brought it back with them when they descended. from Istorya.net

Sec. Ace Durano and the Department of Tourism may have all the good motives in upping the adventure and travel industry in Davao but aside from that, environmental concern should also follow. The event should not all be for the sake of media promotion but being proud of the Philippines and all it has to offer, preserving and maintaining these treasures is compulsory. Let me leave with you with a saying that all nature trekkers must adamantly impose:

Take nothing but pictures
Kill nothing but time
Leave nothing but footprints
