I switched! Blogspot to WordPress migration

I am happy to announce that http://badudets.blogspot.com/ is now https://www.badudets.com/. I’ve been contemplating about it since November of last year, but I don’t know where to start on getting my own domain and web hosting. Some advices I got from the comments is to get a Filipino web host so that communication during site downtimes is easier. Besides, let us support our own Filipino web hosts because I believe Pinoys are one of the best web hosts in the world. My other dilemma at that time was on how I will move my blog from Blogspot to WordPress. I love Blogspot because it’s free but a lot of bloggers swears by WordPress for the endless things that you can do on your blog. And guess what, I’m a WordPress convert now! My decision was influenced by Earth and Mommy Ruby who promised that the migration will be easy as pie, and for a technically-challenged person like me, that’s all I need to hear.

First thing to tackle is domain name registration, I got a cheap domain registration at Godaddy.com for only $7.69 per year, I signed up for private registration so an extra charge was applied. Tip, search for Godaddy coupons when buying domains so that you can get discounts. Next, choose your web host provider. I recommend Mom’s Hosting by Mommy Ruby, it’s very easy on the pocket, and the initial support for your blog set-up is free! Ruby is so accommodating and I have no worries on contacting her anytime a problem pops out about my site. See their very affordable hosting plans here.

Now, for the Blogspot to WordPress migration, this maybe tricky but I’m thankful for Mommy Ruby because she’s online at the time of migration and my questions were just an IM away. For more info, Earth wrote a step-by-step process on her blog here. I also found this website, Mamablogga.com, that provides the guide on migrating from Blogspot to WordPress. After the migration, all I have to do is search for WordPress themes that will suit my taste and top WordPress plugins that needs to be installed. Oh, and an FTP software like Filezilla is needed for uploading themes and plugins too.

Whew, this ends my first post on WordPress! I’m loving it, what I don’t like is updating my blogroll, getting my widgets back and other dirty stuff…

  8. Welcome to WordPress! I’ve used blogger in the past and I wordpress better too. With so many plugins available out there, it’s unbelievable what you can do. I agree with you getting a Pinoy web host. It’s good to support your own.

one suggestion, adjust the height of the portion containing a leaderboard google ad so that it won’t look overlapped 🙂
